Position Description:

The Visual and Performing Arts Teacher provides rich experiences in Visual Arts, Music, and Performing Arts, which help students develop their skills, understanding, and self-expression as artists. This instructor collaborates with classroom teachers and the Associate Head of School to develop units of study that are developmentally appropriate and utilize best teaching... practices for students with learning differences. The teacher is responsible for bringing the school's mission, philosophy, and goals to life. This includes utilizing the school’s Pillars of Instruction and elevating each student as someone who is “known, understood, and liked.” A new teacher in this position would not be expected to have experience teaching all areas of visual arts, performng arts, and music, but would start in their areas of strength while learning and growing in the other areas.

As part of the de Paul School instructional day, the teacher manages students in areas of organization, behavior, movement through the daily schedule, and safety/security. This position includes duties and responsibilities required of all teachers within the de Paul School, including monitoring of students and other duties as assigned.

Duties and responsibilities:
• Demonstrates commitment to The de Paul School's mission, purpose, and culture.
• Designs and delivers high-interest, interactive lessons specially designed for teaching students with specific learning differences. Collaborates with classroom teachers so that Arts instruction is congruent with instruction in the content areas.
• Strives to connect each student to an aspect of the Arts.
• Creates a community of artists where different perspectives and talents are appreciated and highlighted. Finds opportunities to display student work, encourage connections to art within the classroom, and provide afterschool opportunities for artistic expression, such as plays or clubs.
• Communicates enthusiastically and professionally with families and the larger school community through documents, conversations, reports, newsletters, online media, and conferences.
• Partners proactively and positively with faculty and administration to support students with learning differences, including those who experience academic or behavioral difficulties.
• Continually expands one’s expertise with students with learning differences.
• Participates fully in the faculty professional development program. Works with the Associate Head of School to design a personalized professional development plan and to measure progress.
• Participates in curricular and instructional committees that advance the School’s instruction and educational culture (e.g., departments).
• Provides vigilant mental and physical presence in classes and throughout the campus to support safety and security. Vigilantly fulfills monitoring duties and assignments that oversee students.
• Represents the School internally and externally as a professional, knowledgeable, and responsible educator and individual.
• Attends and supports, as needed, special events that promote the school (e.g., Open Houses, The de Party for de Paul, accreditation processes) or that celebrate milestones in the School’s history/year (e.g., Recognition Night).
• Other duties assigned by the Head of School.

Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s Degree, Teacher Certificate, with a Specialty or robust experience in Art.
• Experience in an independent or private school is desirable.
• Proven instructional experience and expertise with students who learn differently.
• Exemplary organizational and communication skills.
• Unquestionable integrity, particularly in honesty, discernment, and trustworthiness.
• Collaborative, resilient, and optimistic.
• Passionate about the chosen field of study
