Primary Function: Develop and implement an integrated, standards-based curriculum that utilizes constructivist instructional methods in the appropriate subject matter and grade level. Essential Functions:
Curriculum and Instruction
• Plan and implement an integrated curriculum based on the California Common Core State Standards for specific teaching assignments.
• Create and maintain a classroom environment that supports learning utilizing Constructivist methods.
• Identify, select, and modify instructional resources to meet the needs of students with varying backgrounds, learning styles, and special needs.
• Collaborate with colleagues (grade level, cluster, enrichment, special ed., etc.) in order to enhance the instructional environment.
• Plan and collaborate with colleagues (grade level, cluster, enrichment, special ed., department) to ensure all students have access to similar curricular experiences in each grade level, across content areas, and across a two-year loop (if applicable).
• Assume responsibility for meeting student performance goals and working with the faculty to meet defined achievement goals.
Classroom Management, Relationships, and Tone
• Build personal relationships with all students that demonstrate respect and compassion.
• Maintain a classroom atmosphere that is safe, accepting, positive, and interactive.
• Create opportunities for students to learn with and from each other through varied groupings, partnerships, and shared learning experiences.
• Involve students in classroom processes, including, but not limited to, creating class rules, accepting classroom responsibilities, understanding the consequences of misbehavior, communicating effectively about problems and conflicts, and developing the skills to solve problems independently.
• Plan and implement lessons, which foster an understanding of the vocabulary and expectations related to school culture, using Cool Tools and the 5 ESLRs (Expected School-wide Learning Results).
Communications
• Communicate effectively, both orally & in writing, with students, parents, & other professionals routinely.
• Respond to parent and colleague communications in a respectful and timely manner.
• Maintain effective and efficient record-keeping procedures.
• Complete and submit lesson plans, assessment data, progress reports, narratives, and other documentation as requested to supervisor and involved colleagues in a timely manner.
• Take attendance daily and ensure that all attendance records/data are accurate and submitted on time.
Professionalism and Teamwork
• Participate professionally in scheduled meetings (grade level, faculty, Whole Child Assessments, Professional Development, etc.).
• Model professional behaviors and ethical standards when dealing with students, parents, peers, and the broader community.
• Maintain reliable, consistent attendance and punctuality.
Other Functions:
• Adhere to school policies, procedures, and deadlines
• Assist in before/after school carpool
• Perform other duties as assigned
• Assist in other school programs when necessary
Knowledge of:
Constructivist learning theory and its translation and application in the grade level of assignment; CA Common Core State Standards in the subject matter and age range of assignment; Classroom management strategies and approaches to creating and maintaining a classroom environment of safety, respect, and learning; Cultural and socio-economic differences in the student population; Conflict resolution strategies to support healthy social development in children; Professional skills for collaboration and teamwork with other education professionals; Written and oral communications skills.
Ability to:
Apply constructivist theory to curriculum development; Translate standards into creative, integrated, project-based activities; Create and maintain a safe, respectful learning environment; Meet the needs of a diverse student population; Support student social and emotional development; Work collaboratively and professionally with the Larchmont Schools team; Communicate effectively with all stakeholders to support student success. Physical Requirements:
Continual speaking; standing for long periods of time; frequent sitting, reaching, walking, bending, grasping, and pinching; occasional lifting and carrying, squatting, twisting, or kneeling.
Environment:
Uneven surfaces, noise, quick work pace. Requires that the incumbent work effectively under stressful situations and respond to the unpredictable behaviors of students. Frequent use of computer screen. Occasionally involves working outdoors and exposure to inclement weather. Infrequently involves exposure to traffic congestion. It may rarely involve exposure to biohazardous waste.

Minimum Qualifications:
(*) Bachelor’s Degree
(*) Valid CA Multiple Subject Teaching Credential
(*) Valid CA English Learner Authorization
(*) TB Test clearance & DOJ fingerprint clearance
(*) 2+ successful years of teaching experience with a track record of advancing student achievement (preferred)
(*) Complete familiarity with the CA Common Core State Standards(preferred)
(*) An enthusiasm for curriculum development to support a growing school program
Other Requirements:
Education Code section 48000(g), under the purview of the California Department of Education (CDE), requires credentialed teachers who are first assigned to a TK classroom after July 1, 2015 to have one of the following by August 1, 2025:
• At least 24 units in early childhood education, or childhood development, or both
• Professional experience in a classroom setting with preschool age children comparable to the 24 units of education described in bullet 1 (comparability determined by the local employing agency)
• Child Development Teacher Permit issued by the Commission on Teacher Credentialing
