Summary:
Responsible for carrying out district policies and procedures in meeting the health needs of students. Assisting School Nurse Consultants to provide basic health care and first aid for students and maintain health records for students.
Responsibilities:
Paraeducator Healthroom:
• Maintain all health records, physical and electronic, for students, including log of daily health room visits.
• Provide reports as required for accidents, head injuries, infectious diseases, Medicaid, etc.
• Administer first aid consistent with district training and emergency care guidelines.
• Administer medication as delegated by the School Nurse Consultant and according to district policy following established protocol and guidelines.
• Maintain storage, security and administration records.
• Manage school health room, equipment and order supplies.
• Organize manuals and update as needed.
• Provide guidance to promote a safe and healthy lifestyle.
• Carry out nursing procedures for individual students as delegated by the School Nurse Consultant, maintain and implement Care Plans, attend training as needed or required.
• Implement immunization law, including compliance determination, notification of noncompliance and maintenance of immunization records.
• Work with building Emergency Response Team (ERT) and maintain ERT supplies.
• Coordinate health screenings at the building level.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
School Support Assistant:
• Acts as receptionist for the building, including managing phones, greeting visitors, building security, monitor main entrance, greet authorized personnel and/or visitors following district policies and procedures, answering requests, and directing individuals to the appropriate contact.
• Maintain student records in Infinite Campus (IC) which includes: emergency information, enrollment, withdrawals, immunization records, schedules, contact information, open enrollment, records request, confirmation of enrollment, and other student information as directed.
• Conduct regular attendance reviews to ensure that attendance is recorded in a timely manner by staff and information submitted by parents/guardians is recorded in IC. Support Principal and District Attendance Advocate regarding attendance concerns and follow through with families as necessary. Verify October Count information.
• Provide assistance to staff, students, parents, and school/community organizations. May process building use forms and assist with maintaining the school calendar and updating the school website. Maintains IC/Parent Portal information, sends communications (i.e. letters, emails, newsletters) to parents, and answers parent questions about IC. Respond and send emails to/from parents, staff, students, community, district staff; facilitate locker distribution, liaison between school and Community Schools; process mail and deliveries; and coordinate and maintain volunteer eligibility.
• Serve as a backup to the healthroom. Assist students in the health clinic, including maintaining health records, distributing medications, preparing First Aid kits and medicines for field trips, assisting sick or injured students, contacting parents or 911, and completing necessary health room forms. These duties may be performed in the absence of a Health Para or in collaboration with the School's Emergency Response Team.
• Provide assistance to staff, students, parents and school/community organizations. May process building use forms. Maintains IC/Parent Portal information, sends communications (i.e. letters, emails, newsletters) to parents, answer and respond to emails from parents, staff, students, community, district staff; coordinate translation and interpretation services, liaison between school and Community Schools; process mail and deliveries; and coordinate and maintain volunteer eligibility.
• Support students by delivering phone messages from parents, lunches, reports and class work, oversee student office assistants, assign lockers, gather and file permission slips, etc.
• Assist counselors and/or assistant principal including support students when a counselor is not available, retrieve students from classes, and call parents to make appointments.
• Support communication throughout the school community, including maintaining the website, signage, school calendars, newsletters, school tours, posting and removing school banners, flyers and announcements, community newspaper liaisons, etc.
• Coordinate athletic events including but not limited to: sign-ups, gathering forms, scheduling busses, processing appropriate paperwork for hiring coaches, preparing spreadsheets for coaches, verifying physical-exam on file, verifying payment received, schedule referees.
• Act as back up to the School Office Manager including pro card use, payroll, submitting IT or maintenance work orders.
• Coordinate Open Enrollment functions; assist BVSD school teachers with scheduling ‘transition level’ visits, assist parents by answering questions and scheduling ‘shadow days’ for prospective students, schedule ‘open house’ dates, publish dates on website and in school newsletter, prepare packets for student visitors, match current students to prospective students for ‘shadowing’, and other tasks necessary to assure success.

• Qualifications:
Required:
• High School diploma or equivalent.
• Minimum of one year experience in general office, customer service.
• Possess CPR, First Aid certifications and medical delegation certificate or willing to obtain within the first year of hire.
• Ability to perform physical labor, including lifting of up to 50 pounds.
• Communicate (read, write, and speak) in English.
• Completed and submitted BVSD online application.
Preferred:
• Experience in health field and/or school setting.
• * Demonstrated proficiency in the use of computers, keyboarding and word processing skills.
• Knowledge and experience with Google, Microsoft Office and typical office equipment.
• * Ability to multitasks with frequent interruptions.
• Maintain confidentiality in all aspects of the job.
• Strong organizational skills, oral and written communication skills, interpersonal relations skills, basic math and accounting skills.
Salary Information:
Salary Placement varies according to experience and education.
• Pay range listed above is for employees newly hired to BVSD or current BVSD employees that are new to the employee group (existing employees currently in this unit please refer to the pay range on the appropriate salary schedule). BVSD engages in a salary placement process vs. a salary negotiation process.
