Position Description:

The Denver Academy teacher is responsible for executing Denver Academy’s mission of inspiring and empowering diverse learners through student-centered, differentiated, and transformative education. This includes oversight and responsibility for students, programs, and day-to-day operations in the classroom. The teacher is also responsible for communicating with parents/families and acting as a liaison with other division classrooms and the rest of the DA community.

This position will include teaching four sections: one section of 10th-grade Literature, one section of 10th-grade English, and two sections of 10th-grade World History. The position will include a homeroom (Literature) class, where the teacher serves as the primary liaison between the school and the home. Additional teaching responsibilities will include one elective class (for one semester) to be determined based on need. This position requires a deep understanding of English language arts, writing, critical thinking, communication skills, and World History.

In 10th-grade English and Literature, students learn about various forms of literature, writing, and vocabulary, and refine their knowledge of themselves as writers and critical thinkers. Literature focuses on reading, analyzing, discussing, and evaluating the content and form of several major works of literature. The curriculum of English 10 is aligned with the Colorado Academic Standards of Reading, Writing, and Communicating . Those standards include Oral Expression and Listening , Reading for All Purposes , Writing and Composition , and Research Inquiry and Design . ??Writing, Communicating, and Presentations will be a primary focus throughout the year and will include Personal, Narrative, Explanatory, Argumentative, Persuasive, Technical, Literature, and Research essays.

World History empowers students to learn about ancient civilizations and cultures. The curriculum is aligned with Colorado Academic Standards of Social Studies . Those standards include History, Geography, Economics, Civics, and Personal Financial Literacy.

Additional Responsibilities:
• Participate on committees, as needed.
• Attend school functions, such as Admissions Open Houses, Dances, Plays, and Sporting Events; High School Information Night, Back to School Night, New Parent Orientation, Saturday School, and a variety of College & Transition Counseling evening events.
• Participate in teacher training and in-service opportunities throughout the school year.

Teaching:
• Maintain a safe and respectful learning environment.
• Develop effective and purposeful lesson plans that are aligned with the Colorado Academic Standards of Reading, Writing, and Communicating and Social Studies.
• Work in partnership with Deans, Heads, and Program Teams for effective delivery of the DA program and content.
• Differentiate lessons to meet diverse learning styles.
• Maintain homeroom responsibilities.

Management:
• Effectively communicate with parents/families.
• Conference with parents/families during scheduled conference times.
• Maintain electronic attendance and grade book system.
• Provide supervision before school, during lunch, and after school.
• Complete grades and report cards before the deadlines.

Leadership:
• Model professionalism in the classroom and among the division.
• Positively represents the DA community.
• Model conflict resolution at all levels.
• Model respect and responsibility.
