Salary Range: $119,680 - $146,585

Essential Functions and Objectives:

Establishes priorities, and mobilizes varied constituents to center multilingualism and ensure support for Multilingual Learners, both within the Multilingual Education function and across Denver Public Schools (DPS). Oversees multilingual program implementation and delivers targeted support for all schools, including charters and iZones, in order to create equitable, rigorous learning environments for all students. Partners with colleagues across the Office of Schools and the Assessment team to ensure curricula resources, assessments, and professional learning aligns with evidence based practices that support multilingual learners with thriving in every learning experience. Manages relationships with internal and external stakeholders as well as all reporting, evaluation and monitoring related to the District’s implementation of the Consent Decree.

Reports to the Associate Chief of Academics. Plans, assigns and supervises the work performed in the areas of responsibility and ensures compliance with District policy and practices and appropriate federal, state and local rules and regulations.

- Collaborates across Academics and offices across DPS to ensure that evidence-based practices for Multilingual Learners (MLLs) are embedded in all instructional experiences, curriculum, assessments and professional learning for educators across the district.

- Ensures the fulfillment of legal requirements as outlined in the Consent Decree, including annual evaluation of schools on implementation of Consent Decree requirements and the effectiveness of their MLE programming for students.

- Ensures that all MLL students are properly identified, placed into services, progress monitored and removed from MLE services when they are no longer required.

- Oversees the direct school support for all schools- including providing coaching, observation, feedback and thought partnership to support school-based educators with improving their instructional experience for MLL students;

- Oversees the World Languages departments, implementation of Transitional Native Language Instruction (TNLI) and Dual Language Programming in schools as well as the implementation of Newcomer Centers.

- Manages the Seal of Biliteracy program, including student assessment.

- Designates the type of MLE programming for each District school and partners with finance to inform necessary allocations for additional funding to school budgets as needed.

- Manages family engagement for MLL students, ensuring that families stay informed and have a platform to share feedback with the district.

- Cultivates and manages relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including government entities; facilitates monthly Independent Court Monitor audits with visits to multiple schools, submits annual reports and any additional requests for information.

Knowledge, Experience & Other Qualifications:

- Five (5) or more of experience in leadership in an educational setting.

- Knowledge of applicable laws and regulations.

- Ability to effectively lead a function.

- Ability to develop, plan, and implement long-range goals, establish priorities, and organize resources.

- Demonstrated experience performing as an effective leader and team player, and recognizing and resolving conflicts or potentially controversial situations through diplomacy.

- Strong interpersonal and leadership skills, including the ability to lead a high-performing team.

- Superior leadership, coaching and mentoring skills.

- Looks for ways to significantly improve business performance and growth.

- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work with individuals at all different levels in the organization.

- Proficiency with Microsoft Office/Google products including Word, Excel, Outlook, Google Docs. Google Sheets, Google Slides.

Education Requirements:

- Bachelor’s Degree in Education or related field required.

-Master's Degree, preferred
