Examples of work : Operates a personal computer to obtain, process, or file data and information; Operates a computer desktop and computer keyboard; Answers all incoming calls, retrieves voicemail messages, transcribes detailed messages, covers other department phones on an as needed basis; Interviews office and telephone callers and endeavors to resolve minor problems and furnish requested information; Classifies, sorts, and files various data, records, and reports alphabetically and numerically; Initiates telephone calls to obtain or issue information; Plans and schedules own work activities to accomplish necessary objectives; Types letters, memoranda, records, reports and other documents from clear copy, rough draft and other sources; Notifies personnel of visitors or callers; Proofreads documents for accuracy; Supervises and/or coordinate activities or workers engaged in performing clerical duties; Issues various office correspondence and communications to appropriate personnel; Sorts, distributes and/or delivers mail, packages or supplies.

Departmental Specific Duties and Preferred Skills & Knowledge

Office of Customer Relations:

· Attendance is essential to the success of this role and will be closely monitored to ensure consistent and reliable support for daily operations.

· Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to interact professionally and respectfully with a diverse group of students, families, staff, and community members.

· Ability to remain calm, patient, and solution-focused when addressing concerns or resolving conflicts.

· Effective communication skills, including active listening and the ability to clearly convey information both verbally and in writing.

· High level of discretion and professionalism when handling sensitive or confidential information.

· Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.

Counseling and Guidance Services:

· Ability to process requisitions and support budget-related tasks with accuracy and attention to detail.

· Timely and professional response to phone calls and emails within the Office of Whole Child Supports.

· Strong technical skills, including the ability to create, maintain, and edit spreadsheets using Microsoft Excel and/or Google Sheets.

· Organizational skills to manage multiple priorities and maintain accurate records in a fast-paced office environment.

· Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, to support internal staff and external stakeholders.

· Ability to handle sensitive information with discretion and maintain confidentiality.

No new employee, successful job bidding applicant, or transfer applicant, may submit a job bid or transfer application until the lapse of one (1) year from the date of employment or reassignment, except where such reassignment was a result of the closing of a school. The Board may only reject an applicant for a

promotional or transfer opportunity if within the 12 months immediately prior to the posting the applicant has either received a suspension of one or more days which has not been successfully overturned or has been absent on 10 or more occurrences (consecutive days of absence shall be considered one occurrence). An applicant may not be rejected because of attendance if the applicant has an accumulated sick leave balance equal to five (5) or more days per year of service with the Columbus Public Schools. The position shall be awarded to the applicant with the highest job classification seniority who is not rejected for the reasons described in this section.
