Independence Charter School - Center City (ICS- CC) is a K-8 Philadelphia citywide admission charter focused on academic excellence, second language acquisition and developing global citizens. ICS is now recruiting culturally proficient educators to join the 2026-2027 staff.
JOB SUMMARY:
The Assistant Principal supports the Principal in leading the school’s instructional program, student culture, and daily operations to ensure a safe, inclusive, and academically rigorous learning environment for all students. This role must be bilingual in English and Spanish and supports instructional leadership across all classrooms, with a particular focus on the school’s Spanish Immersion program, helping ensure strong dual-language instruction and biliteracy development.
The Assistant Principal also plays a key role in analyzing student achievement data, supporting instructional improvement, and collaborating with staff and families to promote equitable outcomes and continuous growth. Working closely and collaboratively with another Assistant Principal, this role requires strong partnership, communication, and shared leadership to support schoolwide initiatives and the effective functioning of the school.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Instructional Leadership
● Support the implementation of high-quality instruction across all classrooms through observations, feedback, coaching, and collaboration with teachers and instructional teams.
● Work with the Principal and leadership team to support curriculum implementation, data analysis, instructional planning, and professional learning.
● Monitor student progress and support teachers in using instructional strategies that promote strong academic outcomes for all students.
● Collaborate with teachers and instructional leaders to strengthen curriculum alignment, language development, and culturally responsive practices.
● Support the implementation of ICS’s vision of global citizenship by helping coordinate and promote globally focused lessons and curriculum that teach students to respect multiple points of view, challenge stereotypes and misinformation, and take action to make a positive change in the world.
● Lead the planning and administration of required state and school assessments, ensuring accurate implementation and compliance with all guidelines.
Spanish Immersion Program Leadership
● Support and monitor the implementation of the school’s Spanish Immersion program, ensuring fidelity to the Immersion language model and strong biliteracy development.
● Observe and provide feedback in Spanish-language classrooms to support high-quality immersion instruction.
● Help promote a schoolwide culture that values bilingualism, biliteracy, and global citizenship.
Data Analysis and School Improvement
● Analyze student achievement and language acquisition data to identify trends, inform instructional decisions, and support school improvement goals.
● Support teachers and teams in using data to monitor student progress and adjust instruction.
● Contribute to the development and implementation of the school improvement plan.
Student Culture and Support
● Promote a positive, inclusive school culture by supporting student behavior systems and addressing disciplinary matters when needed.
● Work collaboratively with counselors, support staff, and families to address student academic, behavioral, and social-emotional needs.
Collaboration and School Leadership
● Collaborate with the leadership team to support the smooth daily operations and overall functioning of the school, including supervision, scheduling, and schoolwide systems.
● Assist with the coordination of daily school operations, including supervision, scheduling, and school events.
● Support school safety procedures and emergency protocols.
Perform other responsibilities as assigned by the Principal or CEO to support the effective functioning of the school.
QUALIFICATIONS:
● Spanish language native-like fluency is REQUIRED.
● Minimum of five (5) years of demonstrated success in the classroom, preferably within an urban school setting
● Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s Degree in Education strongly preferred
● Experience in and/or understanding of the public school system or charter schools
● Pennsylvania Principal Certification strongly preferred

● Demonstrated people management and leadership skills, including the ability to coach, support, and hold staff accountable while building strong professional relationships.
● Strong organizational and project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced school setting.
● Comfort using educational technology and data systems to support instruction, assessment, and school operations.
● Demonstrated professionalism, including reliability and consistent attendance
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
This position requires the ability to move throughout the school building, stand and walk for extended periods, use standard office and educational technology, and occasionally lift up to 10 pounds. The role may require responding quickly to student supervision or safety needs in a fast-paced school environment.
Pay: $95,000.00 - $110,000.00 per year
