Job Description
Benefits: Flexible schedule • Fun & Relaxed Environment • Training Opportunities
Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced and passionate Spanish instructor with a strong background in linguistics, phonetics, and second-language acquisition to join our faculty team.
The ideal candidate goes beyond traditional textbook-based language instruction and understands that successful language learning involves developing students' ability to hear, pronounce, understand, and confidently communicate in Spanish.
We are particularly interested in an educator who can incorporate phonetic and pronunciation training into our Spanish curriculum, helping students understand how Spanish sounds are produced and how pronunciation, rhythm, stress, and intonation differ from English.
The instructor should be comfortable teaching students across multiple proficiency levels.
Because our students have different learning styles, backgrounds, and levels of confidence, we are seeking a teacher who can individualize instruction rather than relying on a one-size-fits-all approach.
Teaching Approach
The ideal instructor combines traditional Spanish instruction with principles from linguistics, phonetics, and language acquisition.
Lessons should develop all major language skills while placing particular emphasis on speaking, listening comprehension, pronunciation, and communicative confidence.
Students should learn not only what to say in Spanish, but also how the language works and how it sounds.
The instructor should be able to help students recognize and produce important features of Spanish pronunciation, including vowels, consonants, syllable structure, stress, rhythm, and sounds that are particularly challenging for English-speaking learners.
Responsibilities
• Teach Spanish courses ranging from introductory through advanced high-school levels.
• Engage in lesson intruction emphasizing communication, pronunciation, listening comprehension, vocabulary, grammar, and cultural literacy.
• Incorporate phonetic instruction and pronunciation training into regular Spanish lessons.
• Identify pronunciation difficulties and provide targeted exercises to help students develop clearer, more natural Spanish.
• Adapt instruction to each student's proficiency level, learning style, strengths, and areas needing improvement.
• Help students understand grammatical concepts through clear explanations, patterns, examples, and meaningful communication.
• Incorporate cultural perspectives from the diverse Spanish-speaking world.
• Use a variety of teaching strategies, assessments, games, challenges, technology, and authentic materials to maintain student engagement.
• Provide constructive feedback and communicate student progress effectively.
• Create a supportive learning environment where students feel comfortable experimenting with language and making mistakes as part of the acquisition process.
Qualifications
• Bachelor's degree in Spanish, Linguistics, Applied Linguistics, Language Education, or a related field.
• Native pronunciation and knowledge of cultural aspects in the Latin American world.
• Strong knowledge of Spanish grammar, pronunciation, and phonetics.
• Experience teaching Spanish at the middle-school and/or high-school level.
• Demonstrated ability to teach students with different proficiency levels and learning needs.
• Experience with individualized or one-to-one language instruction is strongly preferred.
• Strong understanding of early second-language acquisition and communicative teaching methodologies.
• Ability to explain complex linguistic and grammatical concepts in clear, student-friendly language.
• Experience teaching pronunciation, speaking, and listening skills is highly desirable.
• Multilingual and cross-cultural teaching experience is a strong plus.
• Teaching credential preferred but not required for candidates with substantial language-teaching experience.
• Master's degree or graduate study in Spanish, Linguistics, Applied Linguistics, or Language Education is a plus.
The Ideal Candidate
Our ideal teacher sees Spanish instruction as more than vocabulary lists and verb conjugations.
This educator understands that students become successful language learners when they develop an ear for the language and internalize linguistic phonetic and syntactic patterns.
We are looking for a teacher who is patient, enthusiastic, encouraging, intellectually curious, and capable of explaining why Spanish works the way it does while still making lessons practical and enjoyable.
Most importantly, we want an educator who can meet students where they are and help them progress toward accurate, confident, and authentic communication in Spanish.
