General Definition of Work
The budget assistant, under general supervision, performs clerical and administrative work in support maintaining a department budget, approving select purchase orders, and ensuring availability of funds.

Place of Work
The normal place of work is on the premises used by Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools. Charlotte- Mecklenburg Schools reserves the right to require you to work at such other place(s) as it may reasonably require from time to time.
Essential Functions
• Adhere to all state, federal, and local laws, policies, and procedures
• Review requisitions, purchase orders, and check requests to ensure the availability of budgeted funds and appropriateness of expenditure
• Assist in adjusting the general ledger to reflect approved journal voucher entries as necessary
• Assist in updating the approved department budget to reflect budget transfers and change orders; assist in reconciling department records to the general ledger
• Maintain control files and schedules of accounts and funds including updating files
• Answer routine inquiries related to budget expense accounts
• Proofread figures in all stages of budget development; assist in compiling individual project budgets
• Approve expenditures up to $750 and process directly to purchasing or accounting
• Perform related work as assigned or required
Education And Experience
• Associate's degree in Accounting or related field
• Two (2) years of related financial clerical experience, including preparation and maintenance of financial records and reports
OR
• Any equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential duties and responsibilities of the position.
Special Requirements
• Possess and maintain a NC Driver's License or ability to provide own transportation
• Travel to school district buildings and professional meetings
