SPECIALIST, TK–12 INSTRUCTION
38G (School Support Administrator, 0515)
PRIMARY DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
Under the direction of the Director, Instruction this position will support the Division of Special Education instructional initiatives. Duties and
responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
• Supports the work in the Division of Special Education, Division of Instruction, regions, Human Resources Division, Multilingual and Multicultural Education Department (MMED), and other central offices on issues related to instruction for students with disabilities
• Contributes to the design and delivery of curriculum and professional development for teachers, administrators, and paraeducators who support access to differentiated instruction aligned to the California content standards
• Collaborates in the development and implementation of programs, materials, and training to enhance access to the core curriculum for students with disabilities
• Directly supports core curriculum work for students with disabilities, including autism, to promote the District’s vision to increase students success in inclusive settings
• Uses research to identify and design District-wide strategies to address student needs and analyze effectiveness of evidence-based programs designed to accelerate student achievement
CONTINUE - PRIMARY DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Analyzes student and school-level data in support of achieving key performance indicators in meeting the remaining outcomes of the Modified Consent Decree and in ensuring maintenance of effort to meet instruction-related outcomes
• Works with parent and community organizations on behalf of the Division of Special Education and collaborates with other departments to provide regular parent workshops on the topic of core instruction
• Plans for and delivers training and support tools for all ESY core teachers
• Performs other duties as assigned
SALARY:
38G, (School Support Administrator, 0515) – B Basis ($120,083 – $149,480) – 221 paid days
• In the case of an annualized employee who is changing basis during the year, this change may result in an annualized “settlement” (i.e., the process by which the District resolves an under or overpayment).
• For employees who change basis during the school year, this basis change may prevent them from earning a full year of service credit.
• Selected individual may be subject to displacement due to norm allocation and seniority-based RIF provisions or due to budget limitations.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
• Permanent certificated employee of the Los Angeles Unified School District
• At least five (5) years of successful, full-time public school service in a certificated position(s)
• At least three (3) years of successful, full-time public school experience working with students with disabilities in a certificated capacity
• A valid California Administrative Services Credential
• A valid California teaching credential authorizing K-12 service requiring a bachelor's degree and a program of professional preparation, that included student teaching
• An earned master’s degree or advanced degree of at least equivalent standard conferred by a regionally-accredited college or university
• Completion of required Multicultural Education and Master Plan coursework*

Employees who have been issued a below standard Performance Evaluation, or Notice of Unsatisfactory Act(s) and/or Suspension shall be ineligible for application to any promotion process for one calendar year following the issuance of such a Notice.
DESIRABLE EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS:
• Demonstrated expertise teaching students with disabilities at the elementary, middle, or high school level, including meaningful participation in the Individualized Education Program (IEP) process
• In-depth knowledge of California content standards and effective evidence-based instructional strategies
• Thorough knowledge and understanding of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), state regulations, and District policies that pertain to students with disabilities
• Knowledge of the LAUSD Teaching and Learning Framework
• Knowledge of supporting implementation of the English Learner Master Plan to accelerate language acquisition and improve academic outcomes of English learners including long-term English learners
• Experience designing and delivering professional development on evidence-based practices, multi-tiered systems of support, or differentiated standards-based instruction using adult learning theory
• Experience working effectively with diverse racial, ethnic, linguistic, disability, and socioeconomic groups
• Experience with MyData, Focus, Welligent, and other District reporting and tracking systems
CONTINUE - DESIRABLE EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS:
• Excellent written and oral communication and technological skills and successful experience presenting to large groups
• Ability to work collaboratively with teachers, parents, and administrators
• Ability to interpret and use student-centered data for the purpose of improving student achievement
• Ability to travel to other site throughout the District
