Job Summary

The Mild Interventions Elementary Teacher provides an engaging, high-quality educational experience for students requiring special education services, with particular emphasis on supporting social, emotional, behavioral, and academic growth. The teacher may serve as Teacher of Record and/or Teacher of Service and is responsible for implementing individualized programming in accordance with each student's IEP or service plan, applicable state and federal requirements, and Griffith Public Schools policies and procedures.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The duties listed below are intended to describe the general nature and level of work performed. They are not an exhaustive list of all responsibilities. Additional duties may be assigned based on student, building, or district needs.

• Provides direct and/or indirect special education services to assigned students in accordance with each student's Individualized Education Program (IEP) or Individualized Service Plan (ISP).

• Plans and delivers differentiated instruction designed to address students' academic, social-emotional, behavioral, and functional needs.

• Participates in case conference committee meetings and contributes meaningful assessment information, progress data, present levels of performance, goals, accommodations, and other required IEP components.

• Develops and maintains compliant IEPs, including measurable annual goals, benchmarks or objectives when applicable, services, accommodations, and progress-monitoring methods.

• Communicates each student's IEP or service-plan requirements to general education teachers, related service providers, paraprofessionals, and other staff responsible for implementation.

• Collaborates with general education teachers, diagnostic staff, teachers of service, school psychologists, related service providers, and other professionals to support initial evaluations, reevaluations, and student programming within required timelines.

• Ensures accommodations and supports identified in students' IEPs are implemented during classroom instruction and state or district assessments.

• Provides direction, training, and ongoing feedback to assigned paraprofessionals to ensure appropriate student support and implementation of instructional and behavioral plans.

• Collects, analyzes, and maintains student data and uses that information to make data-driven decisions regarding instruction, goals, interventions, and progress monitoring.

• Coordinates or assists with the development and implementation of Functional Behavioral Assessments (FBAs) and Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs), when required.

• Develops lesson plans and instructional activities that are aligned to student needs, grade-level expectations, district curriculum, and IEP goals.

• Uses evidence-based practices and proactive strategies to support social-emotional regulation, positive behavior, student engagement, and access to instruction.

• Establishes and maintains a structured, supportive, and safe learning environment that promotes student independence and successful participation in the school setting.

• Maintains timely and professional communication with parents, guardians, educational surrogate parents, and staff regarding student progress, needs, and programming.

• Communicates regularly with the building principal and Exceptional Learning Administration regarding student needs, concerns, programming, and required supports.

• Follows the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), Indiana Article 7, applicable federal and state laws and regulations, and Griffith Public Schools policies and procedures.

• Attends required building- and district-level meetings, professional development, and training sessions.

• Maintains current knowledge of instructional practices, special education requirements, behavioral supports, and educational technology relevant to the assignment.

• Serves as Teacher of Record and/or Teacher of Service as assigned.

• Maintains required documentation, student records, confidentiality, and compliance timelines.

• Performs other duties as assigned or as required to meet student IEP needs and support the effective operation of the school program.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in education, special education, or a related field.

• Valid Indiana teaching license appropriate for the assignment, or eligibility to obtain the required license, on file with Griffith Public Schools.

• Preparation and/or experience in mild interventions, special education, behavior support, or a related area preferred.

• Knowledge of special education law, IEP development, progress monitoring, accommodations, and evidence-based instructional practices.

• Ability to use curriculum, assessment, student-information, and instructional technology systems required by the district.

• Ability to collaborate effectively with students, families, teachers, paraprofessionals, administrators, and related service providers.
