Salary Range: $110,580 - $151,049/annually
Appointment Type: Permanent Exempt (PEX) (what does this mean?)
Length of Appointment: PEX not to exceed three (3) years. This position is excluded by the Charter from the competitive Civil Service examination process and shall serve at the discretion of the appointing officer.
Calendar: Full Time / Full Year; Working hours are Monday through Friday from 2:30 PM to 11:30 PM

Under the general direction of the Director of Custodial Services, the 0991 Manager I manages and facilitates daily operations within the San Francisco Unified School District Custodial Services Department; manages complex budgets, purchasing and inventory; assists in the implementation of goals, objectives, policies and District programs; supervises, assigns, and trains subordinate supervisors and staff; resolves complaints from District departments, administrators and other members of the school community; manages contracts for waste management, integrated pest management, and uniform services; maintains communication with labor unions.
This position requires flexibility to respond to emergencies during daytime hours, weekends and holidays, travel between multiple sites, transportation of equipment and travel late at night via District vehicle. The regular working schedule is Monday through Friday from 2:30 PM to 11:30 PM.
Essential Duties
The duties specified below are representative of the range of duties assigned to the job code/class and are not intended to be an inclusive or exhaustive list.
As the Manager I, you will:
•
Directly supervise a small group of custodial supervisors and assistant supervisors and indirectly
supervise a large group of custodians engaged in performing custodial services for School District
facilities; develop, interpret and implement policies, procedures, and Departmental directives.
• Assist with the development of performance standards and facility evaluations; conduct regular
inspections of facilities
• Coordinate with SFUSD Department of Human Resources to fill vacant staff positions; assist with
custodial schedules and assignments
• Communicate directly with internal and external partners including school staff, government agencies
and private contractors
• Manage performance of assigned personnel; assist with the development and implementation of
employee evaluations; issue training, coaching and progressive discipline
• Assist the Director of Custodial Services in developing and implementing professional development
and safe work practices for staff
• Ensure compliance with state and city regulations including Healthy Schools Act, San Francisco
Environment’s Green Cleaning Practices and Public Utility Commission’s Stormwater Management.
• Support the successful implementation of SFUSD’s Zero Waste and Integrated Pest Management
programs
• Manage the inventory of cleaning equipment to facilitate timely purchasing or repairs as required.
• Oversee the fleet inventory and coordinate necessary maintenance and repairs to ensure ongoing
operational efficiency.
• Collaborate with the payroll department to review and approve employee timesheets, while
processing time-off requests promptly and accurately.

• Interest in Zero Waste and a desire to promote SFUSD’s sustainability goals
• Experience with budgets and purchasing of a large maintenance department
• Strong analytics and systems thinking necessary to interpret data to inform goals and strategy, as well as build infrastructure where none exists
• Ability to work effectively across multiple functions and roles within a complex organization
• A proven record of effectively planning, organizing and using resources to take action and achieve goals
• The ability to learn quickly and adapt as needed in a fast-paced environment
• Outstanding organizational skills and exceptional attention to detail
• A flexible, “can do” work ethic with a focus on identifying challenges and proactively working to find solutions while maintaining a bigger picture lens and focus on what can be delivered instead of what cannot be done
• Excellent data analysis skills and experience synthesizing data to drive action steps
• Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build effective working relationships with senior level district staff and colleagues
• Effective written and verbal communication and the ability to clearly communicate complex, bureaucratic processes to a variety of audiences
• Ability to work effectively in difficult situations that involve confidential and sensitive matters
• Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) and GSuite (Google Docs, Slides, Sheets, Forms)
Minimum Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution
• Two (2) years of professional-level experience in custodial management
Substitution: Education requirement may be substituted for additional professional-level experience on a year-for-year basis.
