We are looking for an amazing, kind, adventurous, outdoor loving teacher to join our small nature school in Point Loma. I am looking to hire ASAP and would require a background check. This is an amazing opportunity for someone who would love to spend their days outside inspiring and educating young minds, hiking and exploring, learning and teaching about plants and animals and the environment. You would be in charge of making sure the kids are always being safe and kind, cleaning up the stations, running a preschool age circle time, assisting with crafts and activities ect. MUST have experience with kids ages 2-8 years olds, be okay with assisting with diapers/potty training, being outside in all weather rain or shine, hiking, getting dirty, and being fun/sillly/ hands on with the kids. • Hold a valid Teaching Credential or a degree in Child Development, Early Childhood Education, or a closely related field.
• Are available to work Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday from 8:00 AM–3:00 PM.
• Are willing to complete a Live Scan background check before employment.
• Hold a current CPR and First Aid certification or are willing to obtain certification before your start date.
• Are confident and comfortable independently supervising and caring for a group of up to 6 children in an outdoor setting.
• Are physically able to lift up to 40 pounds, kneel, squat, bend, sit on the ground, and spend the majority of the day outdoors in varying weather conditions.
Responsibilities include:
• Provide a safe, engaging, and nurturing learning environment for children ages 2.5–7.
• Lead nature-based lessons, crafts, circle time, and hands-on learning activities.
• Carry out daily lesson plans while encouraging children’s social, emotional, and cognitive development through play.
• Read to children, facilitate learning through exploration, and actively participate in play.
• Supervise children during outdoor exploration and hikes over uneven terrain, including walking up hills and navigating natural environments safely.
• Assist children with toileting, handwashing, dressing, and other age-appropriate self-care tasks.
• Supervise lunch and snack times while encouraging independence and positive mealtime habits.
• Set up and clean learning materials, outdoor stations, and classroom supplies each day.
• Help maintain a clean, organized, and safe learning environment.
• Work collaboratively with coworkers and communicate professionally with families when appropriate.
• Follow all school policies and safety procedures.
The ideal candidate is dependable, energetic, patient, and enjoys spending the day outdoors. They should be confident leading a small group of children independently and passionate about fostering curiosity, resilience, and a lifelong love of nature through play-based learning.
