Capitol Hill Day School (CHDS) invites nominations and applications for the position of Chief Financial and Operating Officer (CFOO).
The Chief Financial and Operating Officer is a senior administrative leader at Capitol Hill Day School and a close, trusted partner to the Head of School. As a member of the senior leadership team, the CFOO provides leadership and stewardship of the School’s financial, operational, and physical resources, ensuring alignment with the School’s mission, values, and strategic priorities.
This role is well-suited to a leader who enjoys working in a small-school environment, balancing strategic thinking with hands-on execution. The CFOO serves as a key liaison to the Board of Trustees—particularly the Assets Committee—and plays an essential role in supporting sound decision-making, operational effectiveness, and institutional resilience.
The position supervises the operations manager, facilities manager, and technology solution specialist; reception; transportation; as well as an outsourced accounting firm partner and other key operational vendors.
Primary Areas of Responsibility:
• Financial planning, budgeting, forecasting, accounting, and reporting
• Long-range financial modeling and sustainability planning
• Investments, endowment oversight, and external financial partnerships
• Financial assistance strategy and student billing
• Facilities operations, capital planning, and transportation
• Information technology infrastructure and systems
• Risk management, insurance, and regulatory compliance
• Leadership of operations, facilities, technology, and administrative staff
The successful CFOO at Capitol Hill Day School will be:
• A Strategic and Practical Financial Leader: Experienced in budgeting, audits, compliance, and long-range financial planning, with the ability to translate financial data into sound, mission-aligned decisions.
• A Trusted Advisor and Partner: Comfortable working closely with the Head of School and Board, communicating clearly and building confidence through thoughtful analysis and judgment.
• An Engaged Operational Leader: Skilled in overseeing facilities, transportation, technology, and vendor relationships in a way that supports both educational and administrative needs.
• A Community-Centered Manager: Approachable, service-oriented, and committed to supporting faculty, staff, and families within a close-knit school environment.
• A Mission-Aligned Professional: Motivated by the values and purpose of a PK–8 independent school and committed to advancing the School’s educational mission.
