General Responsibilities:

The Gordon School, located in the beautiful Roads neighborhood of Miami, FL, is a warm, inclusive Jewish Community Day School and a proud part of the Center for Jewish Life at Beth David. Our school is made up of three divisions: The Day School (K–6th Grade), the Early Childhood Center (3 months–Pre-K), and the Tikvah Center (Special Needs Pre-K–5th Grade).

The Tikvah Center is dedicated to empowering children on the autism spectrum through personalized learning in a vibrant, child-centered environment. Our holistic approach nurtures academic, social-emotional, ethical, and spiritual development, helping each student thrive in inclusive settings.

We’re seeking an Assistant Teacher to join our team and support the lead teacher in a special education classroom. In this role, you'll assist with classroom supervision, lesson planning, activities, and parent communication. The ideal candidate is a team-oriented individual with strong behavior management skills and the flexibility to adapt the curriculum to meet the unique needs of each student.

Duties and Responsibilities

included but not limited to:

• Assist the lead teacher with instructional, behavioral, and social goals

• Work with individuals or groups of students

• Help plan school events like Shabbat shows and publishing parties

• Implement behavior management strategies

• Escort and monitor students during school activities

• Aid in developing academic plans for students

• Communicate student progress with parents and administration

• Report concerns to the lead teacher or administrator

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

General knowledge of special education practices, methods, and techniques for students with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD); ability to collaborate with various educational professionals to address the individual learning, social, and behavioral needs of students with ASD; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with teachers, parents, students, and administrators.

Education and Experience:

• High school diploma or GED required

• Experience with ASD preferred

• Knowledge of special education methods

• Ability to work well with teachers, students, and parents

Physical Requirements:

• Active movement, including walking, bending, and handling tasks

Schedule:

This is a full-time position with the primary working hours from 7:30 am to 4:00 pm, Monday through Thursday, and 7:30 am to 3:15 pm on Friday, following the school calendar year. Flexibility is essential, as there may be occasions requiring early arrivals, late stays, or weekend work for special events.
