Job Description

National Presbyterian School, an independent, coeducational elementary school (Age 3 through 6th Grade) located in Washington, D.C., is seeking a full time Sixth Grade Teaching Associate for the 2026-2027 school year.

This role is designed for individuals who are interested in pursuing education as a profession and gaining hands-on experience in a dynamic elementary school setting. The Sixth Grade Teaching Associate works under the guidance of experienced Sixth Grade Homeroom Teachers to support instruction across all subject areas, lead small groups, support students and teachers through outplacement, and assist with daily classroom responsibilities and student management. They also participate fully in the life of the school, engage in professional development, attend grade-level meetings, attend full faculty meetings, and assume duties related to lunch, recess, and dismissal.

Teaching Associates typically spend one to three years in this role, gaining invaluable hands-on experience as they prepare to lead their own classrooms. To further support their growth as aspiring educators, Teaching Associates are encouraged to work with a variety of grade levels, allowing them to develop a broad skill set and a deeper understanding of different age groups. They also participate in regular meetings led by NPS faculty and have ongoing check-ins with their Division Director. Additionally, as a new faculty member, all Teaching Associates are paired with a faculty mentor for the duration of their first year at NPS.

National Presbyterian School seeks aspiring educators who are eager to develop their teaching skills while fostering students’ academic, ethical, social, and emotional growth in alignment with the school’s mission, philosophy, and Core Values. Applicants should possess a bachelor’s degree and have experience working with preschool and/or elementary school-aged children. This position is ideal for individuals interested in a career in education and looking for mentorship and hands-on experience in a supportive school community.

Interested applicants may Apply Now by submitting a resume, cover letter, and three references. Salary is commensurate with experience with a range of $45,000-$51,000 in addition to comprehensive benefits plans and an allotment of paid leave. Please contact Executive Assistant to the Head of School Sarah Weinhardt at sweinhardt@nps-dc.org with any questions.

As a condition of employment, all candidates offered a position at National Presbyterian School must successfully complete a comprehensive background screening. This includes a national criminal history check and fingerprinting submitted to the Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) for processing. These screenings are required to ensure the safety and security of our school community and comply with applicable laws and regulations.
