Job Title: After-School Sports Coach (Basketball, Tennis, or Soccer)

About the Role
We run after-school basketball, tennis, and soccer programs at elementary schools across the Portland area. We're looking for an enthusiastic, reliable coach to lead weekly sessions with elementary-age kids (grades K-5) for the upcoming school term.
This isn't just about the sport. Our program also builds kids' confidence, teamwork, and resilience alongside their athletic skills, so we're looking for someone who genuinely enjoys working with young children, not just someone who knows the game.
What You'll Do
• Lead one-hour after-school sessions, 1-3 afternoons per week depending on availability and school placement
• Run age-appropriate drills and games for elementary-age kids
• Create a safe, positive, and encouraging environment for all skill levels
• Communicate warmly and professionally with parents at drop-off and pickup
• Incorporate light confidence-building and teamwork activities into sessions (full training and materials provided)
• Follow program safety protocols at all times
What We're Looking For
• Experience playing and/or coaching basketball, tennis, or soccer
• Prior experience working with children (coaching, teaching, camp counseling, babysitting, etc.)
• Reliable, punctual, and comfortable leading a group of 10-20 kids solo
• Warm, patient, and encouraging communication style with kids and parents
• Must pass a background check (required, no exceptions)
• Must be available for a paid trial/shadow session before starting solo
Nice to Have
• Certification or coursework in youth coaching, PE, child development, or similar
• Experience with multiple sports (basketball, tennis, soccer)
• Availability across multiple school sites/afternoons
Compensation & Structure
• Paid per session as an independent contractor (1099)
• Bonus for completing a full season without incident
