Job Description
The Baruch College Early Learning Center (ELC) is seeking a full-time lead-teacher for a preschool classroom and a full-time lead-teacher for a toddler classroom. The preferred candidate for the lead preschool teacher will work closely with the ELC teaching team to provide an enriched learning environment for children ages 2 through 5 years in a classroom setting. The preferred candidate for the lead Toddler teacher will work closely with the ELC teaching team to provide an enriched learning environment for children ages 1 through 3 years in a classroom setting.
Preferred Qualifications: Undergraduate or Graduate Degree in Early Childhood Education, New York State Certification. Some experience working with children younger than five years old is preferred. Candidates must be warm, supportive of very young children and responsive to their needs, as well as a hard-working and organized team player.
The teacher works with a team to plan, manage and conduct comprehensive early education and care programs for toddlers and preschool children.
Core responsibilities include:
• Developing and implementing appropriate curriculum.
• Daily thoughtful interaction with children and their families
• Maintaining close contact with student-parents, and interacting with students, faculty and staff
• Assist in maintaining a safe (NYCDOHMH regulated), aesthetically pleasing, culturally and developmentally appropriate classroom environment
• Assist with documenting children’s engagement and process of learning for reflective teaching practice
• Involvement in on-going professional development initiatives including staff meetings, NYCDOHMH required health and safety trainings, NAEYC accreditation initiatives, and maintaining current and relevant knowledge of early education and perspectives
• Assist in the planning and implementation of staff development initiatives and special events
The Baruch College Early Learning Center uses a play-based curriculum to nurture children’s love of learning. The Center is committed to maintaining an environment which supports and encourages children’s creativity and independence while providing exemplary early education.
Hours: 8:00am-4:00pm or 9:00am-5:00pm Monday - Friday
TERMS OF SERVICE: Renewed upon administrative approval. NYCDOHMH Article 47 requirements, including, medical and immunizations, DOI fingerprinting, New York State Central Register for Child Abuse and Maltreatment clearance, and other required training courses. All positions have a three-month initial appointment time.
