Overview
We are actively seeking dedicated and compassionate Special Education Teachers to join our educational team within the Hickman Mills School District in. This vital role involves designing and implementing individualized instructional plans tailored to meet the diverse needs of students with disabilities. The ideal candidate will play a key role in fostering inclusive learning environments, promoting student development, and collaborating with families and staff to ensure educational success. This position offers an opportunity to make a meaningful impact on students' lives while working within a supportive and dynamic school community.
Responsibilities
• Manage instruction and assessment for assigned students to increase achievement and meet individual student needs
• Design lessons using diverse instructional strategies to engage students in the learning process and enhance understanding and achievement
• Implement a range of assessment practices to determine student growth and achievement
• Establish a comfortable and respectful classroom environment that cultivates an atmosphere for learning and creates a safe place for risk-taking
• Carry out professional responsibilities including accurate record keeping, communicating with families, and contributing to school and district initiatives
• Be familiar with and abide by Board of Education policies and administrative procedures
• Receive consent of the building principal prior to sending form letters and bulletins to homes or other teachers
• Promptly, accurately, and consistently carry out the instructions of the building principal
• Participate in professional growth activities within the building, district, and through self-initiated learning to enrich and improve teaching abilities
• Support building and district goals
• Serve as case manager for assigned students
• Work collaboratively with regular classroom teachers to facilitate the integration of students with disabilities into the general education curriculum
• Work cooperatively with the building process coordinator to implement district special education processes and procedures
• Assess children’s skills and learning requirements
• Design Individualized Education Plans (IEPs)
• Collaborate with parents and school staff to track students’ progress
• Perform other duties as directed by the building principal
Requirements
• Candidates who hold or are working towards the Missouri MILD/MOD CROSS CATEGORICAL teaching certificate—pending certification is eligible!
• Candidates may also be working towards other closely aligned certifications, including:
- EC Special Ed.
- Learning Disabled
- Trainable Mentally Handicap
- Severely Handicap
