The SEED School of Maryland is Maryland’s only tuition-free, college-preparatory public boarding school, serving students in grades 6 through 12 in a 24-hour learning environment. SEED Maryland prepares scholars for success in college and beyond.
Position Summary
The SEED School of Maryland is seeking a reliable and detail-oriented Temporary Painter to support campus painting and maintenance projects. This position will assist with preparing, painting, and finishing interior and/or exterior surfaces to help maintain a clean, safe, and welcoming school environment for students, staff, and visitors.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
• Prepare surfaces for painting, including cleaning, scraping, sanding, patching, caulking, and priming.
• Paint walls, doors, trim, ceilings, railings, and other assigned surfaces.
• Mix, match, and apply paint and finishes according to project needs.
• Protect floors, furniture, fixtures, and surrounding areas before beginning work.
• Maintain tools, materials, and work areas in a clean, safe, and organized manner.
• Follow all safety procedures, including proper handling of ladders, equipment, paint, and related materials.
• Complete assigned work in a timely and professional manner.
• Communicate project needs, supply issues, or maintenance concerns to the supervisor.
• Support other light facilities or maintenance tasks as assigned.
Required Qualifications
• Prior painting experience required.
• Knowledge of surface preparation, paint application, and basic painting tools.
• Ability to work independently and follow written and verbal instructions.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality work.
• Ability to lift, carry, and move materials and equipment as needed.
• Ability to stand, bend, climb, reach, and perform physical work for extended periods.
• Dependable, punctual, and professional.
• Ability to work in a school environment and interact appropriately with students, staff, and visitors.
• Successful completion of required background checks.
Preferred Qualifications
• Experience working in a school, campus, residential, or institutional setting.
• Basic knowledge of drywall repair or general maintenance.
• Familiarity with safe use of ladders, drop cloths, rollers, sprayers, brushes, and related tools.
Physical Requirements
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
• Ability to climb ladders and work from elevated surfaces when required.
• Ability to work indoors and outdoors, depending on project needs.
• Ability to perform repetitive motions, including painting, sanding, and reaching.
• Ability to stand and walk for extended periods during the workday.
