General Definition of Work
The director of community engagement, under minimal supervision, performs senior level work with considerable decision-making discretion providing leadership, oversight, and compliance management for all district-wide community and stakeholder engagement activities. Position ensures the district partners with the Board of Education, parents, families, community-based organizations, teachers, school leaders, and other stakeholders in planning and facilitating community engagement opportunities. Employee perform district-level work to carry out engagement activities and supports the daily operations outlined by the Chief of Strategic Communications and Engagement. This position will also support the Communications Department with social media messaging and audio/video content production while supporting the Board of Education with technology support for Board meetings and other events.

Place of Work
The normal place of work is on the premises used by Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools. Charlotte- Mecklenburg Schools reserves the right to require you to work at such other place(s) as it may reasonably require from time to time.
Essential Functions
• Adhere to all state, federal, and local laws, policies, and procedures
• Lead, manage, supervise, and evaluate assigned staff/projects
• Build systemwide capacity for meaningful community engagement
• Oversee the design, implementation, and evaluation of Board and district initiated community engagement programs, ensuring meaningful participation of families, educators, administrators, and additional community stakeholders
• Provide technology support for Board of Education meetings
• Support the Communications Department with social media messaging
• Provide social media and audio/visual support to the Communications Department
• Facilitate relationships with community organizations, nonprofits, local agencies, and advocacy groups to strengthen Board and district relationships that support Student Outcomes Focus Governance
• Represent the district at community forums, family engagement events, and advisory councils to gather community input.
• Ensure district engagement practices align with federal requirements for accessibility, clarity, and language appropriateness when communicating with families and the community
• Develop partnerships with community-based organizations to extend families' access to support services, learning opportunities, and engagement programs
• Assist schools in identifying external partners that strengthen family engagement and enhance programming
• Collect and analyze data on community engagement activities, participation levels, and access across schools
• Maintain and organize required records of community engagement activities, reports, surveys, evaluations, funding, annual program evaluations, and communications
• Facilitate staff meetings and attend other related meetings as needed/required
• Complete local, state, or federal surveys and reports accurately and promptly
• Participate in professional development workshops and leadership training
• Create an inclusive environment with positive communication/public relations
• Perform related work as assigned or required

• Comprehensive in-depth knowledge and understanding of the principles, practices, and procedures of public school system policies
• Comprehensive knowledge of federal, state, and local regulatory requirements applicable to school systems
• Comprehensive knowledge of staff development practices, procedures, and techniques
• Thorough knowledge of county and school board policies, procedures, and standards
• Ability to maintain professional and emotional control under stress

• Ability to effectively use social media to highlight good news stories that occur in the district and related to community events

Education And Experience
• Bachelor's degree in a related area required; master's degree preferred
• Minimum of five (5) years of related experience preferred
• Bilingual preferred
• Equivalent combination of education and experience
Special Requirements
• Possess and maintain a valid driver's license or ability to provide own transportation
• Travel to school district buildings and professional meetings
