Miami Children’s Museum is looking for an enthusiastic and dependable Afterschool Instructor to support our program at Kelsey L. Pharr Elementary School.
In this part-time role, you’ll spend your afternoons creating a welcoming space where elementary-aged students can explore new interests, build confidence, and learn through play. From art projects and science experiments to literacy activities, music, and group games, you’ll help make every afternoon engaging and meaningful.
This position reports directly to the afterschool program at Kelsey L. Pharr Elementary School and is ideal for someone who enjoys working with children, leading creative activities, and making a positive impact in the community.
What You'll Do
• Welcoming students and helping them transition into the afterschool program.
• Leading age-appropriate activities involving art, STEM, literacy, music, movement, games, and other hands-on learning experiences.
• Preparing weekly lesson plans that encourage creativity, exploration, teamwork, and problem-solving.
• Creating a classroom environment that is safe, positive, organized, and inclusive.
• Supporting students’ social and emotional development through encouragement, guidance, and positive interactions.
• Maintaining accurate attendance records and ensuring students remain properly accounted for throughout the program.
• Managing classroom routines and addressing behavioral concerns appropriately.
• Communicating professionally with parents, teachers, school personnel, and Miami Children’s Museum staff.
• Preparing activity materials and helping maintain a clean and organized program space.
• Following all school, program, and safety procedures.
• Performing other duties as assigned.
Experience
• Loves working with elementary-aged children.
• Has at least one year of experience leading groups of children.
• Is working toward an Associate's degree or higher in Education or has completed at least two years of college coursework.
• Has strong classroom management and communication skills.
• Is dependable, positive, and enjoys working as part of a team.
• Is CPR/First Aid certified (or willing to become certified).
• Can successfully pass a Level II Background Screening and pre-employment drug screening.
