Job Description

Position Overview

We are seeking a passionate and dedicated orchestra teacher to join our faculty and teach 5th grade orchestra classes while also co-teaching with site faculty at all 4 of our middle schools and both high schools. The teacher will travel between sites each week on a regular schedule, so reliable transportation is a must. The ideal candidate will possess exceptional musical skills, string pedagogy, a deep understanding of program development, and the ability to create a supportive and inclusive learning environment for a diverse student population. The teacher will collaborate with colleagues, communicate effectively with stakeholders, and demonstrate outstanding classroom management skills.

Responsibilities

Instruction:

Provide Instruction for 5th grade beginning orchestra at assigned schools

Provide orchestra instruction as team teacher at district middle schools and high schools

Develop and implement a comprehensive orchestra curriculum that aligns with state standards and district goals.

Provide engaging and effective instruction in orchestra instrument techniques to students at assigned school sites

Foster a love and appreciation for music among students through creative teaching methods and diverse repertoire selection.

Participate in the annual All-City orchestra concert and attend all rehearsals and performances

Attend all required Professional Development opportunities and seek out professional development opportunities to continue to grow

Program Building And Development

Work collaboratively with the orchestra faculty to ensure continuity and progression in the music program from 5th grade through high school.

Actively recruit and retain students for the orchestra program through outreach efforts and participation in recruitment events.

Collaboration And Communication

Collaborate with colleagues across disciplines to integrate music education into interdisciplinary projects and initiatives.

Maintain open and effective communication with students, parents, administrators, and community members regarding program activities, student progress, and performance opportunities.

Seek feedback from stakeholders and use it to continually improve the orchestra program and enhance student learning experiences.

Support colleagues in the orchestra faculty by attending and supporting middle school and high school concerts

Classroom Management And Discipline

Establish and maintain a positive and inclusive classroom environment conducive to learning and musical growth.

Implement consistent and fair discipline procedures that promote student accountability and respect for others.

Manage instructional time effectively, ensuring that all students have opportunities for individual and ensemble practice.

Inclusive Programming Practices

Design and implement inclusive programming practices that accommodate the diverse needs and abilities of all students.

Provide differentiated instruction and support services to students with special needs or English language learners, ensuring equitable access to music education.

Foster a culture of acceptance, respect, and collaboration among students of different backgrounds, cultures, and identities.

Other Duties As Assigned

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Music Education or related field.

Valid state teaching certification or eligibility for certification.

Demonstrated proficiency in multiple orchestra instruments and ensemble settings.

Previous Classroom Orchestra Teaching Experience Is Preferred.

Strong interpersonal skills and ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues, parents, and community members.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Proven ability to manage a classroom effectively and maintain a positive learning environment.

Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in music education.

Ability to adapt instruction to meet the needs of diverse learners and create a supportive learning environment for all students.
