Job Title: K-6 Hebrew/Judaic Studies Teacher
Reports To: Head of School
Position Type: Part-Time
Position Overview:This part-time (August–June) Hebrew/Judaic Studies teaching role at Shalom School, a small independent Jewish community school, is ideal for an educator who values inclusive, rigorous, and developmentally appropriate instruction. Teachers design lessons in Hebrew and Judaic studies using varied strategies such as hands-on learning, technology, and discussion to engage all learners. A commitment to educational equity, high expectations, and culturally responsive teaching is essential. Teachers are also responsible for supporting students’ social-emotional growth, helping them build self-awareness, resilience, and positive relationships. Strong candidates foster a growth-oriented classroom culture, use data to drive instruction, and engage in ongoing reflection and collaboration. Teachers partner with families, contribute to schoolwide efforts, and uphold our Jewish values and mission.

Key Responsibilities:
Curriculum & Instruction
• Design and deliver engaging Hebrew language and Judaic Studies lessons
• using the school-wide Hebrew curriculum and Judaic Studies content outlined in the K-6 scope and sequence
• Work with general studies and specials teacher to incorporate Jewish values and traditions where appropriate to connect academic learning to our broader mission
• Integrate heritage months (e.g., Black History Month, AANHPI Heritage Month, Women’s History Month, etc.) into curriculum and instruction
• Implement culturally responsive teaching practices across subjects
Assessment & Data
• Utilize a range of formative and summative assessments to monitor student learning
• Provide clear success criteria and timely, actionable feedback to students
• Track progress and adjust instruction, groupings, and supports based on data
• Keep students, families, and colleagues informed about learning outcomes
• Complete report cards and progress reports in alignment with school expectations
Classroom Environment
• Create an inclusive, respectful, and engaging classroom culture
• Establish consistent routines and implement positive behavior supports
• Promote collaborative learning and honor individual student identity
• Use equitable practices that support all learners
Family & Community Partnerships
• Build and maintain open, supportive relationships with families and colleagues
• Communicate regularly about student progress and classroom activities
• Plan for and conduct parent-teacher conferences in collaboration with general studies teachers
• Partner with caregivers and colleagues to address challenges and celebrate successes
• Participate in school events outside regular hours, as needed
• Meet with outside professionals (e.g., therapists, tutors, specialists) as needed to support student growth and foster collaboration
Collaboration & Professional Growth
• Engage in grade-level team planning and schoolwide faculty committees
• Participate in ongoing professional development opportunities
• Reflect on instructional practice and share expertise with colleagues
• Collaborate with support staff and specialists to meet the diverse needs of all students
• Attend and participate in Student Learning Plan (SLP), referral, and IEP meetings, as needed
Whole-School Events
• Help plan, facilitate, and participate in schoolwide programs and celebrations
• Plan for and attend class-specific field trips as appropriate, ensuring instructional alignment and inclusive student support during off-campus experiences
Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:Education & Certification
• Bachelor’s degree
• Fluency in Hebrew
• Strong knowledge of Jewish customs, holidays, Torah, and prayer
• Prior teaching experience preferred (especially in a Jewish day school setting)
• Familiarity with second language acquisition best practices
• Ongoing commitment to professional development and continued learning
• DOJ Fingerprint clearance

Work Hours• Part-time, exempt (August–June)
• Some evening or weekend hours are required for community events and school functions
Compensation & Benefits
• Compensation: $25-38/hour depending on experience and credentialed license
