Job Description

Essential Duties and responsibilities, listed but not limited, below

Instruction and services for pupils whose needs have been identified in an Individualized Education Program (IEP) developed by the IEP team

Information and assistance to students with disabilities and their parents

Consultation, resource information, and material regarding students with disabilities to parents and to general education staff members

Coordination of special education services with regular school programs for each student with disabilities enrolled in the school

Monitor pupil progress on a daily basis

Co-planning/Co-teaching/Co-assessing; Direct service push-in model

Supports shall include (but not limited to): behavior support, basic academic skills, organization and study skills, social skills, and use of cognitive strategies. In addition, the special education teacher is responsible for:

Fostering a safe and nurturing learning environment

Organizing classroom systems/procedures and managing student behavior to ensure all students are fully engaged in learning

Establishing an environment where students are excited about learning and preparing for college

Desired Skills and Experience

Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and Google suite

Master’s degree preferred

CBEST Scores

Candidate must possess a current California credential in special education or be currently enrolled in a special education credentialing program

Enthusiastic and pleasant, highly motivated individual

Solid knowledge of state and federal guidelines for special education

Ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written)

Bilingual in Spanish is desirable

Flexible and team oriented

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Occasionally required to kneel, climb, and reach with hands and arms above shoulder level or above, lift up to 30 pounds. To bend, sit, stand, squat, stoop, walk, push, pull and reach with hands at shoulder level or below. Always required to wear the appropriate safety equipment for the task, which may include gloves, goggles, aprons, belts, etc.
