KING-CHAVEZ NEIGHBORHOOD OF SCHOOLS
POSITION: Special Education Aide
REPORTS TO: Principal
QUALIFICATIONS AND TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
• High School Degree or equivalent.
• Experience in supporting student’s with disabilities preferred.
• Trained in Non Violent Crisis Intervention preferred (e.g. CPI).
• Employment is contingent on satisfactory completion of a criminal background check and negative TB skin test or chest X-ray.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Work directly under the supervision of an Education Specialist.
• Supervise your assigned student as per schedule created by the Education Specialist to enable the student to be involved in the general education classroom.
• Implement educational, therapeutic and behavioral IEP plans under the direct supervision of the Education Specialist.
• Implement direct instructional support to individual and/or groups of students, and push in support in classes with the student, as designated in the IEP.
• Adapt classroom activities, assignments and materials to provide an opportunity for all special education students to participate in general education classroom activities.
• Provide verbal and/or written feedback of student observations and student classroom support to Education Specialist.
• Collect data and maintain records on each student’s progress toward IEP goals.
• Maintain session logs to ensure proper implementation of IEP minutes.
• Assist credentialed teacher with clerical functions such as correcting papers, creating lesson plans, making copies, helping with progress reports, adapting tests and assignments.
• Act as a cooperative team member in working with King Chavez staff, community, students and families.
• Model appropriate social skills, participation, and problem-solving skills.
• Assist in managing student behavior by applying proactive and positive strategies when helping a student with behavioral concerns.

• Provides one on one direct behavioral intervention
• Provides immediate behavioral reinforcements
• Assists the students to engage in, or remain engaged in, appropriate activities.
• Helps to minimize the students impulsive behavior.
• Implement behavior support plans as designed by IEP team to help students.
• Assist students with personal care needs as stated in the IEP
• Perform other related duties as assigned by the administration or Education Specialist.
• Maintain confidentiality of the students and be respectful of each student’s needs.
• Participate in staff development and training opportunities.

• Bending at the waist, kneeling, or crouching to assist students.
• Hearing and speaking clearly to exchange information and make presentations.
• Seeing to read, prepare and review a variety of activities and to monitor student activities.
• Lift and carry items up to 20 lbs.
• Walking and standing for extended periods of time to provide instruction and to escort students around campus.
• Sitting in order to work at desks or tables.

• Potential exposure to physical injury from aggressive behavior.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $19.00 - $30.00 per hour
