Job Scope

Uses significant independent judgment and familiarity with the field to perform work. May be responsible for the

administration of various moderate and high complexity departmental programs and may lead a group of

employees. May develop policies and procedures and oversee the implementation and execution of them.

Position Summary

Under guidance, the Adult Education Specialist partners with district staff and community members to offer

educational and enrichment opportunities for adult learners. This role involves administrative duties such as

planning, organizing, and developing class schedules, distributing promotional materials, and monitoring program

data. They coordinate activities to support the SAISD adult education program and ensure compliance with all

program requirements efficiently. They also adhere to federal and state laws, regulations, and Texas Workforce

Commission policies.

Essential Functions / Key Responsibilities

1. Using solid knowledge to coordinate with program administrators, community partners, teachers, and

staff to develop, implement and supervise adult education and parent education activities in keeping with

goal and objectives of the Adult Education and Family Literacy Act with general supervision.

2. Using solid knowledge to conduct research and analyze data to complete reports using latitude for

independent judgement as required.

3. When attending internal and external recruiting and networking events, actively promote the Adult

Education program under general supervision.

4. Monitor moderately to complex data to ensure it is up-to-date and accurate in the student data

management system and maintain security of Personal Identifiable Information (PII).

5. Using solid knowledge develops and implements Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s) using latitude for

independent judgement that align with state standards.

6. Using solid knowledge to coordinate and manage moderately complex audits for both student and staff

files to ensure compliance with Texas Workforce Commission (TWC) standards in areas of eligibility,

assessment, and accurate data entry.

7. Using solid knowledge to collaborate with Performance Accountability, Distance Learning, Quality

Assurance, and Instructional Program by leading process improvements across systems processes and

procedures.

8. Coordinate all required technical assistance and training to all staff in areas of compliance and program

improvement or enhancement using solid knowledge.

9. Using solid knowledge to oversee, organize, and conduct, professional development opportunities, based

on program performance measure data, student/staff needs, in accordance with Texas Workforce

Commission guidelines with latitude for independent judgement.

10. Using solid knowledge to collaborate with administration to develop and implement student retention

strategies.

11. Using solid knowledge to actively collaborate and engage in trainings, and professional development

conferences to provide up to date resources for the Adult Education Program.

12. Provide outstanding customer service regarding inquiries from students, partners, and community

stakeholders under general supervision.

13. Working under general supervision, travels to various partner sites as required to complete assignments.

14. Performs other related duties as assigned within the appropriate skill and experience capabilities

expected for this position.

Minimum Requirements

• Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university or 4 years' equivalent experience.

• 3+ years of progressive experience in adult educational programs, or related function.

• Candidate must have satisfactory outcome of fingerprinting background check. Non-refundable fee

(approximately $50.00) paid by the employee.

Preferred Requirements

• Master's Degree from an accredited university.

• 5+ years of progressive experience in adult educational programs, or related function.

• Experience working with federal grant programs.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

• Adult Education curriculum program organization, TABE, Best Plus and BEST assessment systems, and

TEAMS data program.

• Ability to assess and modify an effective instructional program for adult learners.

• Demonstrate communication skills- both written and verbal

• Strong organizational skills, resourcefulness, and initiative.

• Ability to follow oral and written instructions.

• Ability to work with others and maintain an effective working relationships with subordinates, co-workers,

supervisor, school principals and the public.

• Demonstrate problem-solving skills.
