Teacher Specialist (11-Month)

Hogg Middle School | Houston ISD

Position Summary

The Teacher Specialist serves as an instructional leader and member of the Hogg Middle School Leadership Team. This 11-month position supports the campus vision by strengthening instructional practices, ensuring compliance with federal and state program requirements, and building teacher capacity through coaching, feedback, and professional learning. The Teacher Specialist collaborates with administrators, teachers, students, and families to promote student achievement and maintain a positive, inclusive learning environment.

Primary Responsibilities Leadership

• Serve as an active member of the Hogg Middle School Leadership Team.

• Collaborate with campus administration to implement schoolwide goals and initiatives.

• Support campus improvement planning and data-driven decision making.

• Assist with campus operations and other administrative duties as assigned.

• Foster a collaborative culture focused on continuous improvement and student success.

Instructional Coaching and Teacher Development

• Coach teachers through classroom observations, feedback cycles, and instructional planning.

• Model effective instructional strategies and best practices.

• Support new teachers through mentoring and onboarding.

• Facilitate professional learning communities (PLCs) and professional development sessions.

• Analyze student achievement data with teachers to improve instructional outcomes.

• Support implementation of district curriculum and instructional expectations.

Teacher Appraisal

• Conduct teacher observations and appraisals in accordance with the Houston ISD Teacher Excellence System (TES) and district guidelines.

• Provide timely, actionable feedback that promotes teacher growth.

• Maintain accurate documentation of coaching cycles, observations, and appraisal requirements.

• Collaborate with administrators to support teacher development plans.

504 Coordinator

• Serve as the campus Section 504 Coordinator.

• Ensure compliance with Section 504 regulations and district policies.

• Coordinate identification, evaluation, eligibility determination, and annual review meetings.

• Maintain accurate student records and documentation.

• Collaborate with teachers, counselors, families, and district staff to implement student accommodations.

• Provide training and support to staff regarding Section 504 procedures and accommodations.

LPAC Coordinator

• Serve as the campus Language Proficiency Assessment Committee (LPAC) Coordinator.

• Ensure compliance with state and district requirements for Emergent Bilingual students.

• Coordinate LPAC meetings, documentation, and student records.

• Monitor student progress and language proficiency data.

• Collaborate with teachers to ensure appropriate instructional supports and accommodations.

• Provide guidance to staff regarding LPAC procedures and language acquisition requirements.

Additional Responsibilities

• Build positive relationships with students, staff, families, and community partners.

• Maintain confidentiality of student and personnel information.

• Participate in campus events, professional learning, and district meetings.

• Perform other duties as assigned by the principal.

Qualifications

• Valid Texas Teaching Certificate required.

• Master's degree preferred.

• Minimum of three years of successful classroom teaching experience.

• Demonstrated instructional leadership and coaching experience preferred.

• Knowledge of the Houston ISD Teacher Excellence System (TES), Section 504, LPAC, MTSS, and instructional best practices.

• Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.

• Ability to analyze data and use it to drive instructional improvement.

• Ability to lead professional development and facilitate collaborative teams.
