The Opportunity

We are looking for highly qualified specialists who provide instruction for Shades of Love. Shades of Love is a LGBTQ+ club and should foster an inclusive and supportive environment for all middle school students. They should be capable of facilitating open and respectful discussions about LGBTQ+ topics, organizing events and activities that promote awareness and acceptance, and providing resources and support to students. Throughout the school year, the leader should encourage participation, celebrate diversity, and create a safe space where every student feels valued and heard.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

• Supervise and ensure the safety, well-being, and engagement of up to 15 students during after-school programming.
• Plan and facilitate engaging lessons and enrichment activities, adapting instruction to meet diverse learning needs and interests.
• Establish learning objectives, monitor student progress, and support skill development through project-based activities.
• Foster a positive, inclusive environment that encourages participation, collaboration, and character development.
• Prepare classrooms and materials, maintain attendance records, and assist with daily program setup and cleanup.
• Implement safety protocols, including emergency procedures and evacuation drills.
• Evaluate program effectiveness and adjust activities to maximize student engagement and outcomes.
• Perform additional duties as assigned by the After-School Program Director.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required
• Availability to work late afternoons and/or evenings (typically 4:00–6:00 p.m., with program hours between 3:00–6:30 p.m.).
• Experience in LGBT+ advocacy and prior experience working with youth in a classroom, enrichment, or after-school setting preferred.
• Strong communication, classroom management, and group facilitation skills, with the ability to adapt instruction for diverse learners and follow program schedules.
• Passion for LGBT+ education and youth development; candidates qualified to lead instruction in multiple activities are preferred. Must successfully complete required background checks and clearances.

Salary

• $25 - $35 per hour
