Job Summary
To ensure every student is academically and socially ready for college, their career, and the global economy. To equip all students with knowledge, skills, and motivation that empowers them to direct their lives and become confident, critical thinkers who will contribute to a changing global community. This is accomplished by providing a variety of learning experiences in partnership with the community to meet each student's needs as defined by his or her educational plan. The P.E. educator is the primary instructional delivery person for student health and wellness, fitness and growth. The educator collaborates with school team members and provides strategies and supports for increasing student movement and fitness within the regular classroom. The position is demanding, varied and complex. The educator must be collaborative, a relationship builder, have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and be well trained in P.E. content knowledge, early learners, and effective and engaging teaching strategies. Job Functions
• Provide students with effective instruction in the various academic areas; use the Danielson Rubric; differentiate instruction to meet the needs of all students.
• Provide students with effective instruction/modeling/interventions in various behavioral areas.
• Utilize “best” classroom management practices to create a learning environment that is conducive to learning, curtails disruptive behaviors, and enhances students’ self-esteem.
• Collaborate with special education staff to provide students with individualized education programs (IEPs) appropriate accommodations and supplementary aids.
• Participate in and contribute to professional development, implement strategies learned with fidelity.
• Adhere to Ivy’s Equity Code.
• Demonstrate motivation and enthusiasm with a genuine passion for teaching learners.
• Demonstrate the ability to create a child-centered classroom.
• Facilitates children’s physical, cognitive, social and emotional learning through lessons designed to sequentially develop skills appropriate to their ability and confidence levels.
• Provides engaging, fun, and effective instruction that helps build a health and wellness foundation for young children.
• Teaches knowledge and skills in physical fitness, health education, rhythms and dance utilizing curriculum and other appropriate learning activities.
• Provides maximum participation for all students; differentiates as needed to ensure all students experience success.
• Analyzes, demonstrates, and explains basic skills, knowledge and strategies of games, rhythms, and fundamentals of body movement.
• Develops engaging and effective lesson plans and supplementary materials.
• Provides ongoing formative feedback to students. `
• Collaborates with school team members in providing ideas and support to increase health and wellness, movement and activity within the classroom.
• Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior to provide an orderly, productive environment in the physical education areas that supports and aligns with the school-wide Grace and Courtesy expectations.
Parent and Community Engagement
• Make and maintain regular, positive contact with parents via phone calls, email and/or home visits including communicating student progress.
• Establish and maintain effective written and oral communication and rapport with students, parents and colleagues.
• Participate in parent meetings.
• Contribute to the development of a positive attitude between the school and the wider community through cooperative relations, publications, competitions, etc.
• Contribute to community service and global citizenship goals.
Other Duties
• Display physical, social, mental, and emotional soundness in order to execute the duties of the position.
• Serve as a role model for all students and within the school community.
• Interact with co-workers, administration, students, parents and the community in positive, supportive and cooperative ways.
• Encourage the team spirit and contribute as a team member in the decision making processes of the school as facilitated by the building administrator.
• Attend staff meetings and serve on committees as required.
• Contribute to extra-curricular activities and school programs, including recess duty as requested.
• Maintain and promote school goals and objectives.
• Comply with state, federal and school policies, procedures, rules, and the teacher agreement letter.
• Regular and on-time attendance is required.

Education and Experience
Required:
• Bachelor’s degree
• Current appropriate Oregon teaching certification
Preferred:
• Montessori Teaching Certification
Additional Requirements
• Ability to pass a criminal background screening.
• Provide a signed disclosure release authorizing former employers to release all information related to any substantiated reports of child abuse, sexual conduct under ORS 339.370, or crimes listed in ORS 342.143, including all related documents.
• Demonstrated understanding of current research as to how children learn and the ability to motivate students to perform at their best.
• Demonstrated ability to work in an economically, culturally, and racially diverse environment.
• Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively in the English language, both orally and in writing.
• Demonstrated ability to differentiate instruction, by using a variety of styles, and inspire mixed culture and ability classes by creating challenging and engaging learning opportunities for all students
• Demonstrated ability to participate as a member of the team.
• Demonstrated ability to manage a diverse and demanding workload

Physical Demands
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to stand, walk, sit, use hands to finger, handle, or feel, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, talk, hear (in a quiet or noisy environment), taste and smell. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision and ability to adjust/focus.
Work Environment
The noise level in the work environment is usually loud to moderate. Work is performed indoors although there will be required outdoor activities. The employee is directly responsible for the safety, well-being and work output of students.
Mental Functions
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to compare, analyze, communicate both orally and in writing in the English language, copy, coordinate, instruct, compute, synthesize, evaluate, use interpersonal skills, compile and negotiate.
