Job Overview
Title: Special Ed Paraprofessional

Reports to: School Director/Special Education Coordinator

Primary Duty: To assist teacher and students with activities related to classroom academics and/or individual student goals.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Performance responsibilities under the direction and supervision of a licensed special or regular education teacher.

1. Follow all guidelines and procedures for district as outlined in the Employee Handbook, Policies and Procedures, and School Wide Guide.

2. Assist students with academics and special needs in classrooms and in the school (e.g. instruction in basic skills, social skills, self-help skills, learning strategies assignments and tests).

3. Assist with special education students to ensure student safety.

4. Assist in the collection and preparation of special education materials and equipment, as well as supervise their safe and proper use.

5. Assist in the collection and monitoring of student progress data.

6. Perform clerical responsibilities as needed (e.g., charting, copying, filing, data processing, due process form completion, mailings, and communication).

7. Implement behavior plans (e.g., contracts, interventions, and BIPs).

8. Maintain student and family data privacy and confidentiality.

9. Participate in staff development, meetings, and training as requested.

10. Assist teacher in classroom as requested with academics and behavior support.

11. Perform other special education related duties and responsibilities as directed by school director and/or the supervising teacher/s.

12. Other projects as assigned.

Qualifications:

1. Four-year degree preferable (and/or 60 credits or passing score on Para Pro test).

2. Additional training and experience relevant to children preferred.

3. Flexibility to work with different situations and multiple settings.

4. Tactful and effective communication with teachers, students and their families.

5. Must be able to lift, pull and move a minimum of 50 pounds.

6. Good language, math, and reading skills.

7. Adaptability for directed and independent work and able to follow directions.'
