High School Math & Science Tutor
Pay: $40.00 - $80.00 per hour
Position Type: Part-Time Contract (1099)
Location: Nashville, TN (Belle Meade, Green Hills, Brentwood, Franklin, and surrounding areas)
Hours: Flexible scheduling; primarily after-school and evening hours with opportunities for summer and school-year tutoring
About Thrive Tutoring
Thrive Tutoring is seeking an experienced and engaging Math and Science educator to join our growing team. We are looking for a tutor who can confidently support middle and high school students in mathematics and science courses, including Algebra I & II, Geometry, Pre-Calculus, Calculus, Biology, Chemistry, and Physics through personalized, one-on-one instruction in students' homes.
This is an excellent opportunity for a passionate educator who enjoys building relationships with students, creating individualized learning plans, and helping students achieve meaningful academic growth.
Responsibilities
• Assess students' current levels of performance to determine strengths, challenges, and learning goals
• Prepare high-impact lessons in advance of each tutoring session
• Deliver engaging, one-on-one tutoring sessions tailored to individual student needs
• Travel to students' homes throughout the Nashville area for tutoring sessions
• Communicate promptly and professionally with students, families, and the Thrive team
• Coordinate scheduling with families and the Thrive team
• Establish communication with classroom teachers, when appropriate, to gain insight into curriculum, assignments, and student needs
• Review and analyze assessment data and academic records as needed
• Collaborate with the Thrive team to develop personalized learning plans
• Provide parents with session feedback and progress updates
• Provide students with post-session action items, study plans, and reminders
• Follow through on all commitments and maintain accurate documentation
Qualifications
• Minimum of 2 years of experience teaching or tutoring Math and/or Science
• Strong content knowledge in high school mathematics and science coursework
• Ability to teach one or more of the following: Algebra I & II, Geometry, Pre-Calculus, Calculus, Biology, Chemistry, and Physics
• Demonstrated ability to help students achieve measurable academic results
• Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills
• Passion for working with students and helping them build confidence
• Experience designing effective lesson plans aligned to student needs and goals
• Highly dependable, organized, and professional
• Self-starter who thrives in a collaborative and entrepreneurial environment
• Natural ability to build rapport with students and families
• Empathetic, patient, and responsive to individual learning needs
• Reliable transportation and willingness to travel throughout the Nashville area
Preferred Qualifications
• Current or former classroom teacher
• Teaching certification in Mathematics, Science, or a related field
• Private school teaching experience
• Bachelor's degree or higher in Mathematics, Science, Education, Engineering, or a related discipline
• Experience preparing students for honors, AP, or standardized testing coursework
