Special Education Teacher – School-Based (Chicago, IL)
The Special Education Teacher provides instructional support to students with diverse learning needs while collaborating with school staff to implement individualized education programs and drive student success.
Position Details
• Location: Chicago, IL
• Start Date: August 7, 2026
• Duration: Full School Year
• Hours: 40 hours per week
• Setting: Middle School (Grades 5–8)
• Openings: 1
• Hourly Rate: $55
Assignment Overview
• Support a caseload of approximately 20 students
• Focus on push-in and pull-out services in reading (fluency/comprehension) and foundational math
• Work primarily with students with SLD and developmental delays
• Develop, implement, and monitor IEPs
• Collaborate closely with teachers and support staff to deliver targeted interventions
Minimum Requirements
• Active Illinois PEL with LBS1 endorsement
• Bachelor’s degree preferred
• Prior special education experience preferred
• Strong knowledge of IEP development and student support strategies
• Must meet all federal, state, and local requirements

The Special Education Teacher, under the direction of the Special Education Program Administrator provides quality services to special education students, kindergarten through grade 12. The Special Education Teacher has a commitment to team participation in planning and implementation of student programs including special instruction, tutorial assistance and consultation with general education staff.
Minimum Requirements:
• Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited university preferred
• Valid state teaching certificate as required by state, contract/district regulations
• Minimum of one year experience in teaching environment preferred
• State Teacher Certification; Type: Standard Elementary Teaching preferred
• State Teacher Certification; Type: Standard Secondary Teaching preferred
• State Teacher Certification; Type: Standard Special Teaching preferred
• Endorsement: Learning Behavior Specialist (LBS1) preferred
• Complies with all relevant professional standards of practice
• Current CPR if applicable
• TB questionnaire, PPD or chest x-ray if applicable
• Current Health certificate (per contract or state regulation)
• Must meet all federal, state and local requirements
• Must be at least 18 years of age
