Annunciation Day School is an independent private school located in the North Druid Hills area of Atlanta, near Emory University. Serving students from Preschool through 8th Grade, we pride ourselves on small class sizes (averaging 16 students), substantial planning time for teachers, weekly professional development opportunities, and a strong commitment to faculty growth and development.

Key Responsibilities

● Serve as the Religion Teacher for students in Preschool (2s) through 7th Grade, fostering a welcoming, engaging, and structured learning environment.

● Plan and deliver engaging and age-appropriate Orthodox Christian Religion lessons.

● Support students’ spiritual growth and understanding of the Orthodox Christian faith.

● Collaborate with classroom teachers, clergy, and school leadership as needed.

● Maintain positive and professional relationships with students, parents, and colleagues.

● Contribute to a supportive and collegial school culture that embraces innovation and teamwork.

● Uphold the school’s mission, values, and commitment to character development.

Qualifications and Requirements

● Must be a practicing Orthodox Christian in good standing with the Orthodox Church.

● Bachelor’s degree or higher in Education, Religion, Theology, or a related field.

● Master’s degree or Specialist certification preferred.

● Passion for teaching and a student-centered approach to learning.

● Strong classroom management skills and the ability to build positive relationships with students.

● Excellent communication, collaboration, and organizational skills.

● Commitment to ongoing professional learning and instructional improvement.

● Knowledge of Orthodox Christian theology, traditions, and liturgical practices.

Remuneration and Hours of Work

Compensation: Approximately $30 per hour, depending on qualifications and experience.

Regular Hours: Thursday and Friday, 7:30 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.

Thursday Teaching Schedule

● Pre-K: 35 minutes

● 3-Year-Old Class: 20 minutes

● 2-Year-Old Class: 20 minutes

● 6th Grade: 55 minutes

The remainder of the day is allocated for lesson planning and preparation.

Friday Teaching Schedule

● Kindergarten

● 1st Grade

● 2nd Grade

● 3rd Grade

● 4th Grade

● 5th Grade

● 7th Grade

The 7th Grade lesson is 55 minutes. All other lessons are 45 minutes.

On days when the school attends church services, a modified schedule is followed and lesson periods may be shortened. The Religion Teacher is expected to attend the Divine Liturgy and assist with services as needed.

An Orthodox Religion curriculum is provided to support instruction and lesson planning.
