Job Description

The Coordinator - Social Studies plays a critical role in advancing K-12 social studies programming by leading the development, revision, and implementation of curriculum and professional learning for City Schools. In collaboration with the Educational Specialist - Social Studies, the Coordinator ensures that professional learning promotes rigorous, inquiry-based, culturally responsive, and inclusive instruction. The Coordinator - Social Studies leads systemic initiatives to strengthen social studies programming, supports the integration of effective instructional strategies, and manages grant-funded and partnership activities aligned with social studies priorities. The Coordinator also partners with school leaders, district office teams, vendors, and community organizations to implement strategic initiatives defined by the Office of Social Studies, ensuring alignment, coherence, and a shared vision across the K-12 program.

Essential Functions

• Develops and delivers ongoing professional development, using best practices in social studies.
• Supports teachers and school teams as needed with the implementation of the social studies curriculum and assessments.
• Leads the expansion of current social studies initiatives, including partnerships with local cultural institutions; supports the development of new initiatives and partnerships beneficial to City Schools.
• Participates in the evaluation and selection of instructional materials.
• Uses data to strategically support teachers' and schools' needs in the district.
• Coordinates large-scale systemic events, including, but not limited to, Baltimore City History Day.
• Works collaboratively with a highly motivated team from multiple district offices to advance teaching and learning in the district.
• Utilizes resources and data effectively to complete work efficiently; proactively communicates the status of assignments; actively participates and contributes as a team member; and demonstrates sound judgment and decision-making in resolving sensitive matters.
• Maintains confidential and sensitive information.
• Performs and promotes all activities in compliance with equal employment and non-discrimination policies; follows federal laws, state laws, school board policies, administrative regulations, and professional standards.

Minimum Salary 101250.00

Desired Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree required from an accredited institute of higher education. Master's degree in education or related field preferred.
• Valid Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) professional licensure with a Social Studies endorsement and an Administrator I endorsement. ??
• At least three years of experience teaching social studies, elementary, and secondary experience preferred.
• At least eight years of relevant full-time professional experience.?
• At least three years' experience developing?K-12 Social Studies curriculum, ?demonstrating?deep content knowledge and a sustained record of successful implementation.??
• Knowledgeable of current research in social studies best practices.
• Comprehensive understanding of MSDE Social Studies Content Standards; the College, Career, and Civic Life (C3) Framework; and the Maryland College and Career Readiness Standards.??
• Ability to interact with diverse constituencies and convey complicated information with tact and diplomacy.
• Proficient in the use of technical computer applications, including electronic databases, case management systems, Google Suite, and Microsoft Office, including Excel and PowerPoint.
• Ability to exercise independent judgment.
• Skill in research, presenting, and explaining policies and procedures, assembling data, preparing complex reports, and formulating and presenting recommendations.
• Ability to work collaboratively.
• Ability to develop and maintain strong working relationships with school system employees and managers at all levels, as well as government agencies and community stakeholders.
• Ability to multitask, prioritize changing assignments, and organize a busy workload, meet deadlines, and work well under pressure, while exercising excellent attention to detail.

In accordance with Maryland law, City School is required to share the position salary ranges in its entirety. Please note, this is not the hiring range. The hiring range for this position is ($101,250 - 149,361)
