*Texas Education Code § 48.158 defines "classroom teacher as an educator who is employed by a school district and who, not less than an average of four hours each day, teaches in an academic instructional setting or a career and technology setting.

All salary ranges are adopted annually by the Board of Trustees. The District ensures salary placement for new hires will be based on verified years of experience according to the Commissioner's Rules on Creditable Years of Service . These ranges should not be used to project salary amounts for subsequent years.

Assistant Athletic Trainer

EDUCATION :

Bachelor's Degree from an accredited four year college or university

CERTIFICATION :

Valid State Licensure by the Texas Department of State Health Services as an Athletic Trainer in conjunction with the Advisory Board of Athletic Trainers

PE or Health Certification required. If no certification in PE or Health , must be agreeable to obtain within two years of hire date

High School Diplomas and college/university degrees must be obtained from an accredited program or university approved by the United States Department of Education and the Texas Education Agency.

PRIMARY PURPOSE SUMMARY :

Assists the Athletic Trainer in providing oversight for campus athletic trainer program and emergency care, treatment and rehabilitation for injured student/athletes in order to minimize and to prevent injuries; to instruct, guide and train students in sports medicine.

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Renders first aid to injured players such as giving artificial respiration, cleaning and bandaging wounds, and applying heat and cold to promote healing.

2. Responsible for wrapping joints on legs and arms as well as large muscle areas with gauze, adhesive tape and etc., for support and protection.

3. Works with the Athletic Coordinator in securing a team doctor.

4. Calls physician for injured persons as required.

5. Assists the Athletic Trainer with Coordinating the use of equipment and the operation of the Training Room.

6. Works with the Athletic Trainer to establish procedures to cover the preparation of athletes for all contests.

7. Assists with establishing a procedure for recruiting and training Student Assistants.

8. Attends contact sport activities and/or cooperate with other trainers in this area.

9. Processes insurance papers and maintenance of records relating to injuries and treatment to include all applicable required University Interscholastic League (UIL) forms.(Head Trainer only)

10. Ensures that all coaches understand their role of supervision and handling of athletes that receive injuries.

11. Works district tournaments and other University Interscholastic League (UIL) events organized through the athletic office.

12. Establishes a working relationship with physicians in the community.

13. Maintains confidentiality of all information.

14. Occasionally required to drive personal vehicle in the performance of assigned tasks.

15. Reports to work on time every day.

16. Performs additional duties and accepts other responsibilities as may be assigned.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

• Knowledge of subjects assigned

• General knowledge of curriculum and instruction

• Average proficiency in the use of a computer, knowledge and ability to use and/or learn to use Spreadsheet, Internet, Word Processing and Athlete Management and Scheduling Software

• Ability to instruct students and manage their behavior

• Ability to adjust and be flexible to a multitude of situations as they occur

• Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community

• Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format

• Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors

• Ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems

• Ability to concentrate, interpret policy and procedures, reason, understand verbal instructions, analyze, differentiate, memorize, read, coordinate, compile, compute, instruct, and maintain emotional control

• Strong organizational, communication and interpersonal skills

• Valid Texas Driver’s License with driving record that meets the requirements of the District

• Valid Class "B" Texas Driver’s License (Commercial) with a driving record that meets the requirements of the District. Employee must meet the standards set by the Texas Education Agency, Department of Transportation and the Texas

Department of Public Safety (This requirement is for those teachers assigned supplemental duties that require transporting students in District vehicles)

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand. The employee frequently is required to walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and taste or smell. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles and outside weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
