Position Overview

Ascension Episcopal School and Church are seeking a joyful, enthusiastic, and nurturing Music Teacher & Church Pianist to support the musical life of both the school and church communities.

This unique part-time position combines music education for children ages 2 through 2nd grade with piano accompaniment for Sunday morning worship services. The ideal candidate loves working with young children, possesses strong piano skills, and is excited to use music to inspire learning, worship, and community engagement.

The Music Teacher & Church Pianist will provide engaging general music instruction during the school week, support weekly chapel services, and serve as pianist during Sunday worship services.

This position is ideal for a retired music teacher, church musician, private music instructor, music education student, or other individual who enjoys sharing a love of music with both children and congregations.

Schedule

School Responsibilities

• Tuesdays and Thursdays

• 8:30 a.m. – 2:30 p.m.

Church Responsibilities

• Sunday Morning Worship Services

• Additional rehearsals or special services as needed

Primary Responsibilities

Music Instruction

• Plan and deliver engaging general music lessons for students ages 2 through 2nd grade.

• Teach foundational music concepts including rhythm, melody, movement, singing, listening skills, and music appreciation.

• Create a positive, energetic classroom environment that encourages participation and creativity.

• Incorporate singing, movement, instruments, games, and hands-on activities appropriate for young learners.

• Foster a lifelong appreciation for music through joyful and meaningful experiences.

School Programs & Performances

• Select, teach, and rehearse music for school performances and special events, including:

• Christmas Programs

• Graduation and Milestone Ceremonies

• Grandparent and Family Events

• Other school performances as needed

• Collaborate with faculty and administration to support school-wide events.

• Assist with coordinating music-related aspects of special programs and celebrations.

Chapel Support

• Provide piano accompaniment during weekly school chapel services.

• Assist with selecting and teaching worship music appropriate for young children.

• Support the spiritual life and mission of the school through music.

Church Music Ministry

• Serve as pianist for Sunday morning worship services.

• Provide piano accompaniment for congregational singing, hymns, and special music.

• Collaborate with clergy and church leadership in planning worship music.

• Participate in rehearsals and special worship services as needed throughout the church year.

• Support the mission and ministry of the Ascension Episcopal Church through music leadership.

Qualifications

• Experience teaching music to young children preferred.

• Bachelor's degree in Music Education, Music, Early Childhood Education, or a related field preferred.

• Strong piano proficiency and ability to accompany singers and congregational worship.

• Ability to engage and manage groups of young children in a positive and developmentally appropriate manner.

• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

• Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with school and church staff.

• Demonstrated love for children and commitment to fostering a joyful learning environment.

• Appreciation for the role of music in Christian worship and faith formation.
