61,052 - $78,641 salary and benefits based on level 10 of the 24-25 program assistant contract

The Dakota Language Instructor will serve a vital role in restoring language, strengthening identity, and supporting students, families, and communities in reconnecting to Dakota ways of knowing, being, and speaking.
The Dakota Language Instructor shall be responsible for teaching students K-12 to speak, read and write the Dakota Language. Primary responsibilities are to promote language revitalization to include families with language programming in the Robbinsdale Area School District.
Develop and implement Dakota Language lesson plans for appropriate levels of fluency, i.e. beginners, intermediate and advanced speakers
Develop curriculum and a scope and sequence for Dakota Language 1, and 2 courses creating synchronous and asynchronous opportunities for student learning
Work with the Indian Education staff on implementing Dakota Language in the school program, to include language and culture camps.
Utilize language resources, community members and/or elders when possible
Assist in the planning and development of special events with the Indian Education Department.
Actively participate in, plan and oversee language immersion and culture camp programming
Procure language materials and lesson plans for robust learning
Support professional development of staff, students, and community members with Dakota Language and culture.
Current teaching license in American Indian Language, History, and Culture
Able to attain a teaching license through TNEC with the State of MN
Proficient in Dakota Language
i.e. evening or weekend classes
Good record keeping and data entry skills
Strong computer skills
Ability to work independently and adapt to a team structure
Knowledge of history, culture and lifeways of the tribes in Minnesota
Two (2) year degree in Native American Studies, Education or related field
Experience teaching within a Tribal community
Experience teaching in a public school
Required Training
Any position-related training as determined by Director
Work is performed primarily in a classroom setting, but may include occasional evening and outdoor activities
