Under limited supervision, employs classroom management techniques that create a learning environment in which students know what is expected of them. Gives instruction in the areas assigned by the principal. Reports to the principal.

Position Summary

The Cherokee County School District seeks a certified Music Teacher to deliver high‑quality, standards‑based general music instruction for students in grades K–5 while leading and supporting a comprehensive school arts program. This role includes instructional, performance, leadership, and grant‑related responsibilities designed to strengthen arts education, promote arts integration across the curriculum, and enhance school‑wide cultural programming.
Primary Responsibilities
• Provide standards‑based general music instruction for students in grades K–5, including planning, assessment, and monitoring of student progress.
• Plan and implement music instruction aligned with South Carolina music standards, including formative and summative assessments.
• Prepare students for multiple in‑school, after‑school, and community outreach performances throughout the school year.
• Coordinate and participate in school and community performance events representing the assigned school.

• Classroom Management:
• Begin the class promptly.
• Communicate expected behaviors to students.
• Maintain maximum on‑task behavior from all participants.
• Respond to inappropriate behaviors with immediate and appropriate intervention.
• Materials:
• Choose appropriate materials and equipment for each lesson.
• Handle materials efficiently in the classroom setting.
• Planning for Instruction:
• Develop effective teaching strategies that achieve the lesson’s behavioral objective.
• Use a clinical approach to teaching, diagnosing and prescribing evidence‑based interventions.
• Utilize an appropriate lesson plan format.
• Ensure the behavioral objective is appropriate for the learner group.
• Teaching the Lesson:
• Identify and meet student differences in needs, abilities, and interests.
• Communicate clearly what is to be learned, the purpose of the learning, and how it connects to prior knowledge.
• Provide opportunities for accountability, practice, and feedback.
• Demonstrate up‑to‑date knowledge of the subject matter.
• Use reinforcement theory to maintain a conducive learning climate.
• Encourage, praise, and acknowledge student effort appropriately.
• Ensure practice schedules secure retention of learning.
• Collect data to evaluate student performance and inform future instruction.

Physical and Cognitive Requirements
• Physical Requirements:

Sedentary work involving walking or standing some of the time and lifting up to 10 pounds as needed.
