Job Description
The Computer Science and Digital Media department at Germantown Friends School is seeking a teacher to join its dynamic team. At GFS, Computer Science classes offer students rich and engaging instruction in coding, digital citizenship, digital media, and robotics. We are looking for an innovative and collaborative teacher who possesses extensive content knowledge in computer programming and robotics. The ideal candidate should find joy in the ideas and expression of young people and be able to inspire them with a love for all things tech.
The ideal candidate
• Has experience teaching multiple programming languages.
• Has experience mentoring students through competitive robotics events (including Vex and Lego).
• Has experience using online coding and teaching platforms.
• Actively and consistently considers curriculum and pedagogy through the lenses of diversity, equity, and inclusion.
• Has an active interest in developing and teaching elective courses in computer science/technology.
• Enjoys collaborating with colleagues (K-12) on curriculum and lesson planning.
Expectations
• Manage a full teaching load, including different elective courses in Middle School and/or Upper School.
• Lead MS and US Robotics teams and initiatives.
• Advise a group of 8-10 students.
• Participate in the life of the school, including required meetings, duties, and Meeting for Worship.
• Support the school mission and strategic initiatives.
• Support departmental goals and initiatives, including curriculum development and student-led events.
