K-8 Teacher, Alpha - $120,000/year USD

Employer Crossover
Location Phoenix, Arizona
Type Full-time
Compensation 60

Job Description

• $120,000 annual W2 compensation, paid weekly; medical, dental, and vision coverage begins day one
• Full-time position (40 hours per week), on-site at Alpha School's Kirkland, WA location (possible temporary assignment at another Alpha campus prior to Kirkland opening)
• Current Washington State Teaching Certificate mandatory. Without certification, no interview will be scheduled.

You hold a Washington teaching certificate. The real question is whether you still wish to spend your time lecturing, grading papers, and delivering a standardized curriculum to every student.

Your role here is not traditional teaching. You motivate. The most meaningful support you can offer a student who reaches 99% of their weekly target is to refuse to mark it complete. If that concept unsettles you, this role is not a fit. If it energizes you because maintaining high standards is how you demonstrate belief in a student's capability, continue reading.

At Alpha, academic learning happens through AI-driven adaptive applications. No lectures. No textbooks. No Sunday nights spent preparing lesson plans. Approximately 60% of your time is dedicated to facilitating one-hour life-skills workshops covering public speaking, focus, and constructive feedback practices. Around 30% involves individual and small-group sessions where you review Coachbot analytics and guide each student toward their weekly app progression benchmarks. The remaining 10% is data analysis that informs the following week's coaching strategy. You will not follow a rigid script; top performers in this position adapt existing workshops and create new ones when they identify unmet needs.

Success here is not defined by "enjoyable sessions." It is measured by tangible improvement. A semester is successful when at least 90% of your cohort demonstrates pre-to-post gains on Test2Pass, at least 90% meet their weekly learning-app progression benchmarks, and students provide an average rating of 4 out of 5 or higher for their experience with you. Falling short on any of these three metrics means the role is not working. As you demonstrate your ability to maintain high standards, advancement opportunities open to Lead Guide—mentoring newer Guides while continuing to lead a cohort—and eventually to Campus Lead.

If you prefer curriculum delivered to you, or if you view warmth and rigorous standards as contradictory, this position will not suit you. If your Washington certificate is current and you are motivated by coaching K-8 students to measurable outcomes rather than lecturing from a textbook, submit your application today.

What You Will Be Doing

• Facilitating one-hour life-skills workshops for K-8 cohorts covering public speaking, focus, and feedback practices, modifying the existing framework and creating new sessions when you identify content gaps
• Overseeing Test2Pass pre- and post-assessments and coaching students who have not yet achieved mastery until they successfully demonstrate competency
• Conducting daily individual and small-group coaching sessions that drive every student toward their weekly app progression benchmarks, leveraging Coachbot analytics, Alpha's incentive structures (school currency, leaderboards), and your individual rapport with each student to overcome resistance
• Analyzing weekly performance metrics, identifying struggling students early, and implementing corrective interventions within the same week
• Serving as the adult who maintains high expectations and the adult students trust and respect; warmth creates the foundation for accountability, and accountability communicates your confidence in their potential

What You Won’t Be Doing

• Delivering whiteboard lectures or preparing daily lesson plans; academic content is delivered through the applications, not by you
• Developing curriculum from the ground up; you deliver a proven framework with energy and narrative skill
• Passively monitoring students at computers or allowing them to disengage during the day; motivation in this role is active, individualized, and persistent
• Reducing a weekly target or advancing a student without demonstrated mastery to maintain schedule or avoid difficult conversations
• Assessing homework or handling parent communications
