Description
BASIC FUNCTIONS:
• Serve as a communication link between the home and school in matters relating to special education programs and compliance issues
• Support parents in advocating for their student with disabilities and provide support to families in identifying and addressing factors which may be impeding the child's educational progress
• Coordinate with team members to address referrals received regarding enrollment, academic, behavioral, emotional and family social issues
• Plan and implement activities pertaining to their respective fields on staff development days as well as participate in case reviews as needed
• Serve as resource to families, school personnel, and special education staff by identifying and utilizing district and/or community resources which are appropriate to address the identified needs of the students and family
• Consult with campus administrators, teachers, counselors and nurses regarding behavioral, family or social issues and on strategies to improve communication with parents
• Disseminate information to parents and teachers about available services in the community for students with disabilities
• Maintain effective communication and rapport with parents, students, school personnel and the community
• Attend ARD meetings, as required, to assist parents in understanding the special education process and/or provide support when needed to school staff
• Attend and participate in multidisciplinary staff meeting concentrating on individual special needs cases (i.e. social, cultural, emotional, and economic) as required
• Serve as liaison between school and the home in resolving difficult case
• Promote parental involvement for parents of students with special needs
• Adhere to the Code of Ethics as set forth by the National Association of Social Workers and the Texas State
• Perform all duties relating to the IDEA B FORM grant at 100%
• Perform all other tasks and duties as assigned
• Regular and punctual attendance at the worksite is required for this position
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Travel throughout the district is integral to this job. A remote working environment /alternate work arrangement is not an option for campus-based employees/campus-based positions because regular and punctual attendance at the worksite and performing all duties at the worksite are essential job duties for all campus-based personnel.
Qualifications
• Master's Degree from an accredited university in Social Work; valid Texas License as a Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW) granted by the Texas State Board of Social Work Examiners
• Experience in social service within a school setting, or the equivalent in demonstrated competence, such as experience in the delivery of counseling and social services
• Ability to work effectively with administrators, school staff, parents, students, and judicial personnel
• Skills in oral and written communications, bilingual preferred
• Ability to interface effectively with students, staff, parents and the community
• Organizational, communication, interpersonal skills and the ability to prioritize as required achieving the goals of the position
• Knowledge of the community and ability to access services
• Demonstrated flexibility to cope with the challenges of a rapidly changing world
• Demonstrated willingness to remain current with the latest developments in the profession
