SFUSD EED Preschool Teacher
Under the supervision of the site administrator or designee, the Pre-Kindergarten (PK) Teacher provides high-quality early childhood instruction in alignment with SFUSD Early Education Department guidelines. The PK Teacher implements a play-based, developmentally appropriate program that supports the academic, social-emotional, and physical development of preschool-aged children and reflects the district’s commitment to equity, inclusion, and culturally responsive practices.
Key Responsibilities and Role Details
The duties listed below are representative of the role and are not intended to be exhaustive:
• Plan and implement developmentally appropriate, play-based instruction aligned with California Preschool Transitional Kindergarten Learning Foundations and SFUSD EED curriculum frameworks
• Provide instruction that supports language development, early literacy, foundational mathematics, and social-emotional learning
• Create a safe, nurturing, and inclusive classroom that promotes exploration, independence, and positive behavior
• Maintain a warm, inviting, and intentionally designed classroom environment that serves as a “third teacher,” with organized indoor and outdoor learning areas aligned to the Creative Curriculum, accessible and regularly rotated materials, opportunities for choice and ongoing projects, spaces for independent and collaborative work, meaningful documentation of children’s learning, integration of natural elements, and clean, well-organized spaces that support engagement and exploration.
• Observe, document, and assess student progress using EED-approved assessment tools; use data to inform instruction and individualize learning
• Implement culturally and linguistically responsive practices that honor the diverse identities of students and families
• Establish and maintain ongoing communication with families, including conferences, progress updates, and family engagement activities
• Collaborate with paraprofessionals, related service providers, and school staff to support student learning and program coherence
• Maintain accurate student records in accordance with SFUSD policies and state/federal requirements
• Supervise students during classroom activities, transitions, meals, and outdoor play in accordance with licensing and district guidelines
• Ensure compliance with Community Care Licensing regulations and EED program requirements
• Participate in professional development, staff meetings, and EED trainings as required
• Prepare and maintain classroom materials, equipment, and learning environments
• Perform other related duties as assigned
Working Conditions
• Frequent standing, walking, bending, and active engagement with young children
• Occasional lifting of classroom materials and supplies
Minimum Qualifications
• High School Diploma (AA or BA degrees in Early Childhood Education are preferred, but not required)
• A CTC Child Development Teacher level permit or higher (Site Supervisor is preferred but not required)
• Negative TB test administered within 60 days of hire
• Ability to meet district health and background clearance requirements
Bilingual skills (e.g., Cantonese or Spanish) desirable

• **NEW: Starting 1/1/2027: District pays 100% of Kaiser premium for Employee Only, Employee+1, Family; non-Kaiser = pay difference vs Kaiser; same eligibility
