Position Overview
Compass Community Schools seeks a Dean of Students for the 2026-2027
school year. The dean will support teachers' efforts to provide students with consistent high-quality learning experiences. The dean is a talented and committed educational leader who will help prepare Memphis youth academically and in character for life-long success.
Primary Responsibilities
● Foster a school community that focuses on three pillars - academic excellence, values based character education, and service learning in the community - to prepare students for college and life-long success
● Claim ownership for generating, building, and maintaining systems to ensure
a safe, supportive, joyful, and hopeful school culture
● Develop a values-based school culture that has high expectations to support the moral compass of students and fosters social emotional competence
● Own the day-to-day process of supporting the school culture by managing schoolwide procedures and routines, supporting students individually and in small groups, observing student interactions, and responding to student discipline concerns in a restorative manner
● Carefully monitor and be responsive to school culture by looking at student, teacher, and family surveys as well as behavior/ attendance data
● Manage the disciplinary process for the school in accordance with school and network policies
● Provide in-depth support to teachers as they implement tiered behavior interventions in their classroom
● Organizes and supports school activities that add to the sense of belonging for our students (ie schoolwide/grade level assemblies, clubs and organizations, student leadership, etc.)
● Communicate with parents regarding student behavior, performance,
and any concerns
● Other duties as assigned by the principal
Qualifications
● Affinity with, and passion for, the compelling vision of Compass Community Schools
● Proven success in raising academic achievement for all students.
● Well-versed in data management systems (academic or behavioral) and
proven success in raising and maintaining school performance.
● Ability to lead a team towards high performance levels in pursuit of the Compass vision.
● Strong ability to plan strategically and then execute these plans with attention to detail.
• Displays knowledge and fluency in social-emotional and moral ethic practices
● Expertise in de-escalation strategies and techniques for students.
● Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, including the capacity to engage, inspire, and motivate colleagues.
● Excellent interpersonal skills, with ability to build productive relationships with teammates.
● Desire to work hard in a balanced, extended school calendar
● Utmost personal and professional integrity
● Bachelor's degree or higher from an accredited four-year institution; advanced degree preferred (RBT or BCBA experience preferred)
● At least five years of teaching experience and leadership experience preferred

Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $55,000.00 - $65,000.00 per year
