Job Summary

Assist the school principal in overall administration of instructional programs and campus-level operations. Coordinate assigned student activities and services. Collaborate with the Principal in making decisions about the day-to-day operations of the school, while adhering to existing policies, procedures, and protocols for addressing arising issues. Actively participate in the healthy functioning of the school. In partnership with the Principal, Superintendent of Schools, Director of Curriculum, marketing, business administration, and various committees, also responsible for recruiting and retention of new families, fundraising activities, and community outreach programs.

Minimum Qualifications

• Master’s degree from an accredited college or university

• Preferred successful administrative school experience as Assistant/Vice Principal

• Classroom teaching history

• Evidence of leadership ability

• Florida Department of Education Certification as School Principal or Educational Leadership or Administration/Supervision

Essential Functions

Instructional Management

• Participate in development and evaluation of educational programs.

• Encourage and support development of innovative instructional programs, helping teachers pilot such efforts when appropriate.

• Promote the use of Waldorf core principles in the teaching/learning process.

School/Organizational Climate

• Promote a positive, caring climate for learning.

• Deal sensitively and fairly with persons from diverse cultural backgrounds.

• Communicate effectively with students and staff.

School/Organizational Improvement

• Participate in development of campus improvement plans with staff, parents, and community members.

• Help principal develop, maintain, and use information systems and records to track progress on campus performance objectives and academic excellence indicators.

Personnel Management

• Observe employee performance, record observations, and conduct evaluation conferences. Serve as second appraiser for designated teacher appraisal system.

• Assist principal in interviewing, selecting, and orienting new staff.

Administration and Fiscal/Facilities Management

• Supervise operations in principal’s absence.

• Help plan daily school activities by participating in the development of class schedules, teacher assignments, and extracurricular activity schedules.

• Supervise reporting and monitoring of student attendance and work with attendance clerk on follow-up investigations.

• Act as School Assessment Coordinator with support from school counselor.

• Assist with safety inspections and safety-drill practice activities.

• Comply with federal and state laws, State Board of Education rule, and board policy.

Student Management

• Ensure that students are adequately supervised during noninstructional periods.

• Help to implement Conscious Discipline resulting in positive student behavior.

• Ensure that school rules are uniformly observed, and that student discipline is appropriate and equitable.

• Support teachers with student discipline issues.

• Conduct conferences on student and school issues with parents, students, and teachers.

Professional Growth and Development

• Participate in professional development to improve skills related to job assignment.

School/Community Relations

• Articulate the school’s mission to community and solicit its support in realizing mission.

• Demonstrate awareness of school-community needs and initiate activities to meet those needs.

• Use appropriate and effective techniques to encourage community and parent involvement.

• Other duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities

• Share supervisory responsibility for professional staff with school principal.

• Supervise teachers, custodians, paraprofessionals, clerical personnel, and others as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

• Knowledge of FLDOE requirements, charter school requirements and regulations is an asset.

• Demonstrated leadership skills in a Waldorf School. Waldorf teaching certificate or a general certificate with Waldorf teaching experience preferred.

• Thorough understanding of Waldorf education.

• Excellent verbal, written, and collaborative communication skills.

• Excellent organizational skills.

• Excellent interpersonal skills.

• Ability to multitask under pressure; ability to supervise and delegate.

• Competency with computers, Microsoft Office suite, and internet use.

• Appreciation and understanding of Waldorf methods and philosophy and a commitment to bringing that to a public charter school setting.

• Commitment to continuous improvement in instructional practices.

• Commitment to educational equity and a passion for teaching and working with students, knowledge, and experience in meeting the needs of students with different experiences, languages, and backgrounds.
