EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE :
Bachelors Degree
Four years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
High School Diplomas and college/university degrees must be obtained from an accredited program or university approved by the United States Department of Education and the Texas Education Agency.
PRIMARY PURPOSE SUMMARY :
Build communication with parents, staff and community on Title I campuses in order to assist students who are experiencing barriers to success and to build parent capacity to participate effectively in school activities. Connect the home and school in a positive, respectful, and welcoming manner. Represent the school through thoughtful, meaningful, and culturally appropriate communications. Assist parents/families by understanding the many challenges that occur in the community. Bridge the gap between home and school by helping parents get the information and support needed to ensure their child's academic and social success.
ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Surveys parents and guardians to determine needs and assess effectiveness of the Family Engagement program.
2. Facilitates and conducts parent education activities, classes, and workshops according to the programmatic expectations.
3. Maintains home school links through personal contacts and home visits.
4. Assists students progress in the classroom by providing support and information to school staff and parents.
5. Participates in conferences pertaining to student behavior, social adjustment, and academic performance.
6. Helps students attain maximum educational benefits by informing them about, and, if necessary, referring them to special programs.
7. Performs case management for students experiencing barriers to achievement and attendance.
8. Assists campus in creating and implementing a comprehensive plan focused on families, students, and the community.
9. Organizes parent and family engagement materials, activities, and communications.
10. Reports information approved by the principal to parents, guardians, and appropriate school staff to promote a positive caring climate of learning. Creates monthly calendars of parent and family engagement events and trainings.
11. Effectively communicates the goals of campus programs to parents, guardians, school staff, Parent Teacher Association members, civic organizations, and community members.
12. Supports family engagement program activities on campus and districtwide initiatives.
13. Provides parent and family engagement professional development and training to staff and families.
14. Collaborates with school leadership and other stakeholders to make sure appropriate parent, family, and community stakeholders are involved in all parent and family engagement related decision-making for the school.
15. Shares knowledge and expertise regarding compliance with the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA), Section 116.
16. Maintains compliance documentation to show evidence of implementation of the Family Engagement Program requirements.
17. Participates in the campus family support team.
18. Identifies, informs, and refers school staff and parents to appropriate resources and services in the community.
19. Facilitates and conducts parental education activities.
20. Conducts English as a Second Language (ESL) literacy training for parents as needed.
21. Assists with collection of the Family Income Surveys.
22. Collaborates with the Family Engagement team to offer evening student/parent workshops targeting College, Career & Military Readiness (CCMR), attendance, state testing requirements, and other essential knowledge for academic success.
23. Becomes knowledgeable about various community agencies, institutions, and services within Bexar County.
24. Participates in training to further develop professional skills and stays current with research and practices.
25. Maintains confidentiality of information.
26. Reports to work on time every day.
27. Must spend at least 90% of day fulfilling the responsibilities defined in this job description or other duties assigned as related to parent and family engagement.
28. Performs additional duties and responsibilities as may be assigned.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
• Proficiency in speaking, reading and writing Spanish preferred
• Willing to travel to multiple campuses, student homes, and local businesses
• Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations
• Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals in both English and Spanish
• Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of parents, campus and district staff members, and community members
• Valid Texas Driver’s License with driving record that meets the requirements of the District
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to sit. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. The employee is frequently required to drive personal vehicle in the performance of assigned tasks.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to outside weather conditions and risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
