Job Description

Relocation to Rural Alaska Required

This is a full-time teaching position with a public school district in rural western Alaska. Schools are located in small, road-inaccessible villages serving Alaska Native communities. Teachers travel to the villages by small plane and live in close-knit communities with limited services and amenities.

This role is best suited for individuals who are independent, adaptable, and committed to community-based education. While rewarding, it is not a traditional teaching or lifestyle experience.

About the Role

We are seeking U.S. state-certified teachers for the 2026-2027 school year. Out-of-state certification is accepted; however, candidates must complete Alaska licensure requirements, which include document verification and an FBI background check.

Students, families, and teachers work closely together, and cultural respect is central to success in this environment.

Position Available:
Kindergarten Teacher (1 opening)

Start Date: Early 2026

Compensation and Housing
• A competitive salary, based on experience and credentials
• Annual step increases for returning teachers
• Housing is secured with assistance from the district and is subsidized
• Travel to the village is reimbursed by the district
• Housing is pet-friendly, though availability varies by unit

• Living in a small Indigenous community
• Limited local amenities (stores, healthcare, recreation)
• Harsh weather conditions and weather-dependent travel
