The Licensed Care Specialist (RN/LPN), an integral part of the school system, protects and promotes student health, safety, and learning by bridging healthcare and education. Under direction of the Health Services Coordinator, Licensed School Nurse and Principal/Administrator, the LCS works as part of the larger interdisciplinary team to provide direct nursing care and procedures, manage daily operations of the school health office, implement individualized health and emergency care plans, provide care coordination, collaborate with school staff and families to promote student wellness and resiliency, and provide health education and resources to students and staff.

Essential Position Functions:

Provide nursing care and procedures

Medication administration

Assessment/Triage of school health office visits

Oversight of the daily operations of the school health office

Implementation/Organization of school health plans

Electronic Health Record Documentation

Provide health education and resources to students, families, and school staff.

Serve as a health consultant and resource in health-related areas for school staff and families

Third Party Billing

Collaboration with families, health care providers, and school staff to promote student health, safety, and wellness

Inventory/ordering of supplies and equipment

AED Management

Hearing and Vision Screening and Referrals

Monitoring/surveillance and reporting of communicable disease and immunization data according to State Law

Qualifications:

Minnesota Registered Nurse (RN) license or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) License

BLS and/or CPR/AED/First Aid Certification

Strong interpersonal communication, organizational, and critical thinking skills, and the ability to work with minimal supervision

Working Environment/Requirements:

Must be willing and able to work in the following conditions: busy, noisy, with consistent interruptions. Ability to be flexible and provide support to multiple health offices if needed. Ability to lift/move/push/pull as required by the assignment.
