Position Summary:

The Fleet Foreman is a technically skilled supervisor who leads the fleet personnel to productivity and success. The Atlanta Public Schools fleet of vehicles is comprised of over 400 buses and 250 support vehicles that support students in APS and allows the Fleet Manager to manage the fleet while the Fleet Foreman supervises the staff and processes. This supervisory position has responsibilities of overseeing daily fleet operations and ensures work productivity through evaluating subordinate employees, ensuring that the shop is organized, clean and efficient and interfacing with the warehouse vendor to ensure ordering of appropriate equipment and supplies. The Fleet Foreman will also ensure vehicles are inspected, serviced, and repaired.

Essential Dutieas:

• Directly supervises Master Fleet Technicians, Fleet Mechanic, Service Writers and Electronics Technicians repairing and performing service on school buses, passenger cars, trucks and other equipment

• Assigns technicians, orally or through work orders, specific repair jobs, service, or other functions according to their classification and skills

• Provides oversight and quality control to subordinates and their work

• Determines workflow, priorities, vendor escalation and work schedules

• Manages process to ensure appropriate records and record keeping is completed

• Evaluates assigned employees timely

• Reviews maintenance complaints and quality control reports

• Required to have prompt, regular attendance in-person or virtually and be available to work on-site, in-person during regular business hours, and as needed

• Performs other duties as assigned by an appropriate administrator or their representative

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

• Knowledge of supervisory concepts

• High degree of technical skills with school bus, heavy diesel, automotive and motorized equipment

• Knowledge of vehicle warranty programs

• Knowledge of work team concepts and productivity standards in a repair facility

• Knowledge of budget practices

• Knowledge of vehicle/equipment specifications and applications

• Ability to read and interpret complex materials such as technical manuals, schematics and writing diagrams

• Skilled in oral and written communications of complex materials

• Understanding of procurement processes related to parts, fuel, lubricants and oil

• Skilled in Microsoft Office Suite, Telematics GPS data, various diagnostic software, and other technologyapplications

• Strong problem solving skills

• Skilled in evaluation of personnel in the accomplishment of goals and objectives

• Ability to manage priorities and workloads

Minimum Requirements:

EDUCATION:

• High school diploma or GED required

• Bachelor's degree preferred

CERTIFICATION/LICENSE:

• Commercial driver's license, A or B required within 90 days of hire required

• Heavy truck and School Bus ASE (Automotive Service Excellence) and OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) certifications are preferred

WORK EXPERIENCE:

• 5 years of technician experience with heavy diesel, trucking, school bus or motor coach, automotive and light trucks required

• 3 years of experience supervising technicians, shops and warehouse applications required
