Equipped with specialized science and computer labs, a lecture theatre, and outdoor spaces, EIS provides a dynamic environment for hands-on, STEM-focused learning. Through engaging lesson plans and problem-solving activities, students develop analytical and critical thinking skills while exploring diverse STEM fields. EIS collaborates with local schools, universities, and businesses to create impactful educational experiences.

Role Overview

Location: Elementary Institute of Science (608 51st Street, San Diego CA 92114)

Schedule: June 1-July 31st (includes 1 training week), 20-40 hours/week, 8am – 5pm

Compensation: $22/hour

Role Description

We are looking for enthusiastic, dependable, and positive STEM Educators to join our summer team. As a camp educator, you will play a key role in creating a safe, fun, and enriching environment for campers aged 7-14. The ideal candidate is energetic, responsible, and passionate about both science and working with children, all while supporting camp programming and daily operations.

Key Responsibilities
• Supervise and ensure the safety of campers at all times
• Lead and participate in daily camp activities revolving around hands-on science
• Build positive relationships with campers to foster inclusion, confidence, and teamwork
• Implement lesson plans and activities prepared by the education team
• Enforce camp rules, policies, and safety procedures consistently
• Model appropriate behavior and positive attitudes for campers
• Assist with check-in, check-out, and campers’ breaks
• Respond appropriately to campers’ needs
• Represent oneself and the Museum in a professional, respectful, and courteous manner.
• Attend employee training program and other trainings and meetings as directed.

Required Qualifications
• Must be at least 18 years old
• Physically able to participate in active outdoor and indoor activities
• U.S. work authorization and present original, unexpired documents proving identity and employment eligibility by their first day of work.
• Willingness to comply with our certification requirements (i.e. Mandated Reporter Training, Sexual Harassment & Prevention Training, Livescan Background check)

Preferred Qualifications
• Coursework or degree in STEM, education, or a related field
• Previous experience working with children (camp, school, childcare, tutoring, coaching, etc.)
• CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain prior to camp start)
